I'm usually filled with praise for Publix, but this weeks ad left me annoyed after visiting my local store.
The ad shows; "Whole Chicken - $0.79/lb"
When I got to the store, they had a small sign over a group of 5-7lb chickens that showed the same thing in the ad, yet the prices on the chickens were still marked at around $1.79/lb. I grabbed one and asked an meat associate if the price was right, as the ad showed the chickens to be cheaper. He looked at this whole chicken I was holding and told me that it was a Roaster, not a Whole Chicken. A Roaster I asked? He then tells me that a Whole Chicken is a small chicken (usually under 4lbs) while the bigger chickens are Roasters. He then proceeded to direct me to the "Whole Chickens", all which were small enough that we needed to buy two of them to make enough for tonight and the week.
Have I been ignorant in my 27 years of life to have never realized that a whole chicken is actually determined by its size? That a chicken too large is no longer a whole chicken, but a Roaster?
Now, believe me, I know all too well this is beyond trivial, but it still annoyed me.
I welcome your thoughts.
