I'm an uncle!

Well, I am now an uncle. My brother's girlfriend had a wittle bitty baby girl yesterday. She has slate blue eyes and lots of jet black hair.
I've never seen a new born before. They are so tiny. She was 7 lbs 9 ounces. Don't know if that's a normal size or not.
I'm supposed to get her something, like a toy, but I wanna get her something educational. Is there anything you can get for a child that young to help improve mental skills, or motor skills?
My mom told me to get her a rattle, but I would like to get her something she could use for a few years before it gets trashed.

Don't you mean you're an aunt 😉 j/k
There's not a whole lot of toys a kid that's just born is actually capable of playing with it, just go for something with bright colors.

I think they appreciate it. For quite some time after my daughter was born, I'd always turn on a CD of classical music for her when I laid her down to sleep. Actually, I recommend the Baby Einstein series of DVDs.

Buy an interesting mobile to hang up somewhere ....
or
We had this little combo light, sound machine that attached to the crib and would play a couple of tunes, heartbeat sound, etc ...all to soothe and comfort the babe. Our son liked it more and more until he outgrew it after a couple of years.

Of course now that tune is permanently etched into my brain!😉
