I'm an idiot

So I just got everything for my new rig in yesterday and now I'm having problems getting it to boot 🙁

Whenever I start the thing up I get this error at post:

CMOS Checksum error - Defaults Loaded

My options are to hit F1 to continue or DEL to enter the BIOS setup. I try both keys and nothing happens, it's like the computer is frozen.

I've tried reseting the CMOS, taking out the battery for a couple seconds, taking out both sticks of memory and changing them around, reseting numerous times.... 🙁

Here are my rig specs:

Abit IS7
P4 2.4c
2x256 PC3500 HyperX memory
2x256 PC4000 OCZ memory
Seagate Serial ATA 120gig hdd
Radeon 9800

I've tried only putting one set of memory in and I still can't get past that screen. 🙁

Please help! 🙁

Oh, another question.

What are the fsb and multiplier settings for a P4 2.4c? 12x200?

the BIOS says that I'm running DDR400, Host/DRAM Frequency is 200/200, and the AGP/PCI is 66/33.

That all right?

:Q 😀 Wow, I'll bet you were relieved to find such a minor/n00b problem eh Yzzim? 😀 😀

Oh, like you've never done it either 😛
Hey, this thread wasn't about my n00b fsckups. 😀 On that note, I am really glad the problem was fixed without needing an RMA or somesuch.

lol. At least nothing is wrong with your new rig, right?

Everything seems to be running excellent, though I haven't gotten too much farther past POST since there's no OS on it yet...

And yes, it was a HUGE relief when the system completely booted after switching around the kb/mouse.

Still can't believe that was the problem. So much wasted time on such a minor problem.

Lesson learned = never overlook the little things, no matter how good you think you are 😉

if youre anywhere in the south east (US) it might be worth driving to alabama, the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) is selling XP pro for $5.25

(asuming you wan t to run Microsoft windows)

BTW very nice rig, I'm jealous.

any reason for 2 types of RAM? I'd think you might pair up for DCM on that 800mhz FSB (coming from a guy with 256 and a 512 RAM cards)

glad it was a simple error...

hearing sob stories really put me off the forums for a while... i was tired of being =(

=)

You know....I think I would have checked that out before attempting to put the computer together.

I'm an idiot

Yes, yes you are 😉 J/K

As far as being an idiot- I was overtired putting together one of my rigs once and got pissed off that I couldn't get the IDE cable plugged in to the mobo so I pushed on it real hard and heard a lovely 'snap' as it dawned on me that I was looking at both IDE ports and they weren't the ones I was forcing the cable in to..... 😱

At least you didn't break anything 😉

so I got your newegg refurb..😛😉

Heh..always the little details. Last PC I built...well..it wouldn't start up. Everything looked great, nice wiring etc. Then I noticed I forgot to connect the multicolored power switches to the front of the mobo.

😕😱 :Q

It happens. 😛

Haha! That's funny. We get so involved with the tech know-how, we forget about the fundamentals.

I also panic when the rig does not boot up after I just spent a few ours working on it. But that's odd for a CMOS error to pop up. Must be one of those generic errors some mobos flip at you, it would of threw me off too.

5.75 for a full copy of xp pro??

I agree as well. I've also reversed the mouse and keyboard a couple times and gave it the ol' WTF, hehe. Anyway, hope those different memory sticks play well together.
