Some may remember my frantic posts about booking a flight to the UK for my GF and I, but then discovering my passport had expired. To add insult to injury, I also discovered my Canadian citizenship certificate (a photo ID card) had gone missing.
It's impossible to get a new passport without proof of citizenship and after visiting two passport offices I was told I was SOL. I was also informed that the process to replace the certificate was nearly eight months. I had less than four weeks before our flight was scheduled to leave.
I had just about given up and come to terms with eating the $1200 for the flight when I received a phone call from a woman at my local Member of Parliment's office. I had emailed my MP explaining my plight, asking for any assitance in expediting the process. She told me she would see what they could do.
That was two weeks ago.
Yesterday I got my citizenship certificate in the mail.
This morning I had my passport application processed urgently (at an extra cost). The woman processing my passport began calling my references only a few minutes after we left the office.
I pick up (barring no issues) my passport on Friday.
We leave for the UK on Monday.
Whew.
