Well... I used to run a Blockbuster store when I was in college. A customer asked me why he couldn't get a certain DVD to play. I told him you just put it in the tray and hit play. After a few minutes we determined the source of his problem : You can't play DVD's in a VCR.

You know what I love? How EVERYONE thinks that everyone else is stupid. It's the same thing as, "NOBODY knows how to drive." Everyone says that. How is it possible for any one person to be correct if everyone makes such statements? The answer is: it isn't. The only logical conclusion is that there are 6 billion people on this earth; 5,999,999,999 of them are of roughly equal intelligence. The other person is smarter than the rest. The odds of you, or I, being that person are 1 in 6 billion. So stop acting like you're that person.

Someone hands me, for example a $699.96 check - they want to deposit $600 of it and get the rest back as cash.
Now these people are so OCD about their bank accounts that they attempt to keep them on whole dollar amounts (I assume this, otherwise their stupidity is even more unthinkable), not thinking their account gets interest, which messes it up anyway
They also overlook the fact they're getting 99.96 back in cash, and, on top of that, when I hand them their 96 cents in change, they gape at the sheer amount of coin I hand them, like I have somehow erred.
Clerks said it best - "This job would be great, if it weren't for the fvcking customers."
More bank stupidity - man hands me a check, tells me he wants to deposit it. No deposit slip - okay I can deal with that. "Do you know your account number?" "No." "How about your SS#?" "Not off hand." "Hmm...can I have your name please?" (We can look up accounts by name) "John Doe" - so I punch it in and I can't find it.
After 5 minutes of looking around he tells me he has a middle initial (stupidly, this is the program's fault, requiring a middle initial if one is in the system)
At least the pay is good. :D

i never fill out a deposit slip... y're the clerk, you deal with it. I'm in the bank to deposit money, not do someone's paperwork

Speak for yourself, according to my IQ vs. the average I am indeed ;) And I've never tried to put a dvd into a vcr, or other similar things. I've also never nearly killed someone because I was too busy putting on makeup to be on the correct side of the road (some woman nearly hit me head-on a few years back), or because I was on my cell phone, etc. Fact of the matter is ATOT's average intelligence, despite the old spiderman (Syringer) bit and the threads on crappy TV shows, is likely far higher than the societal average.

Maybe stupid isn't the right word, CLUELESS fits better in my opinion.

Too many people think they are the center of the universe and everyone else should cater to them.

Example:
Driving - Not moving to the right when someone wants to go faster. This I will never understand.

Just because you're unwilling to admit the stupid things you've done does not mean you haven't done them.

And intelligence does not equal wisdom or common sense. In fact, some of the most intelligent people who have ever lived have committed the greatest blunders.

I can see the argument there (and sometimes do the same myself). If the next lane is going slower than I am, then I'm not going to move right. If it's wide-open and I'm already going 10 over the speed limit, you can get over and pass me. :p

Now, if someone's going 50 in a 60 in the fast lane, I see your point. ;)

That isn't really stupid OR clueless though. It is more likely to be filed under STUBBORN. There's a massive difference there.

Ok, yes, I don't expect someone to move right when there are other cars there. I get annoyed when there is an opportunity to move over and people do not. (as in you pass the slower moving cars on the left then fail to move right when there is noone in th lane)

Stubborn is a good way to put it.

I've done stupid things and don't mind admitting them... but nothing quite so indicative of vapid stupidity as driving on the left side of the road (in the U.S.) or attempting to insert a DVD in a VCR.

You will have your moments of stupidity.

Eventually you will learn that sitting on your ivory tower is stupid.
