I'm always astounded by how stupid people are

Where are all the stupid people from, and how did they get to be so dumb ?

As the NOFX lyrics go. Don't you find that every day you manage to at least witness the shear stupidity that is harbored by humanities mistakes?

I don't understand how people can be so dumb. There's not much point in asking for a specific situation, because the chances are good it could be any plausible situation.

I hate humanity so much sometimes.

It doesn't really bother me, it just surprises me. The thing about hating humanity, that's more to do with some things that happened today specifically to me. meh

Thats OK, a guy robbing a "Las Vegas Night" with a gun in a city near me walked into the back room with his gun aiming down, saw the retired cop who was working security pointing a gun at him, and told the ex-cop pointing a gun at him to "drop it" while he, the robber, was at a distinct tactical disadvantage. Instead, he got dropped... by one round to the head. At least he's out of the gene pool though :)

The fact that they listen to NOFX attests to their stupidity

Repeatedly becoming astonished when encountering a display of stupidity could be a sign of stupidity.

Everyone has dumb moments. I'm sure people have made this same statement after watching you do or say something that they thought was idiotic.

It's too stressful to hate humanity for being dumb. Much easier just to let them do their thing, and you do yours.

Every single day - I work at a bank and the stupidity of some people is amazing.
Someone hands me, for example a $699.96 check - they want to deposit $600 of it and get the rest back as cash.
Now these people are so OCD about their bank accounts that they attempt to keep them on whole dollar amounts (I assume this, otherwise their stupidity is even more unthinkable), not thinking their account gets interest, which messes it up anyway
They also overlook the fact they're getting 99.96 back in cash, and, on top of that, when I hand them their 96 cents in change, they gape at the sheer amount of coin I hand them, like I have somehow erred.
Clerks said it best - "This job would be great, if it weren't for the fvcking customers."
More bank stupidity - man hands me a check, tells me he wants to deposit it. No deposit slip - okay I can deal with that. "Do you know your account number?" "No." "How about your SS#?" "Not off hand." "Hmm...can I have your name please?" (We can look up accounts by name) "John Doe" - so I punch it in and I can't find it.
After 5 minutes of looking around he tells me he has a middle initial (stupidly, this is the program's fault, requiring a middle initial if one is in the system)
At least the pay is good. :D

Just remember that for every act of stupidity you notice in another, people have witnessed similar acts from you.

We ALL have done or said foolish things in our lives. And many times, people have seen us only during these times. Think about how they would have thought of you at the time.

The key here is, everyone makes mistakes. There is one of you, but billions of others. To you, that's billions of mistakes to witness. To others, your mistakes are just one of those billions.

Is shear stupidity when you manage to lop off a finger as you're trimming your hedges? :D

J/k, I often feel the same way. It's not, as MAME suggested, surprise - rather anger that life would be a lot less stressful without so many idiots or if they weren't quite so stupid. However, it'll only get worse as more & more products need inane warnings to avoid lawsuits (some guy just got awarded $2 mill from Mattel in a lawsuit for putting barbie dolls in pornographic poses.. wtf?) and since stupid people tend to breed earlier in life and more frequently... it's only going to get worse, and so getting used to it is probably the best (only, really) idea, unless you don't mind becoming a hermit.

Edit: Are NOFX ATI fanboys? :p

That's a good way of looking at it. I'm just now dealing with a mistake I made that nearly cost me my job... and it's a hard thing to deal with.

Yep, we all have been there (or will be someday). The key is learning from your mistake and not letting the shame of it incapacitate you.

Everyone makes mistakes. Even the most successful people on earth have made their fair share of mistakes. The difference is they do not let their mistakes hold them back and they keep trying.

Finally, and most important is to remember that nobody is responsible for your failures but you. And only you can fix it.

I haven't realized for years how powerful an emotion shame is. Just have to keep on doing my job and doing it well, I guess.
