I'm afraid to look at the news anymore

Child found dead after car stolen.

The poor lady just ran in to get some juice. She shouldn't have left her car running, and shouldn't have left the kid in the car, but that's something a lot of people do. Poor poor woman :(

Seems like stories like these, the poor CNet guy lost in the wilderness, the week old baby being kidnapped, etc are filling the news this Christmas, and it's really starting to depress me. I'm going to end up being afraid to let my kids out of the house pretty soon.

Do you actually think that if we killed more people, things like that wouldn't happen?

I don't.

i've done it for years. I came in the room the other night and my son was watching TV. The 10 o'clock news was on and it was "Murder this, rape that, robbery this...". I bolted for the remote and shut that crap off. I'd like to keep my son as innocent as I can for as long as I can.

If I ever had a child, he/she would be taught asap what to do in every possible predicament that endangered his/her life.
I would have knives and weapons hidden in my car, around the house, etc..etc..
I am very paranoid about things like that.

oh they irony of it all when your child accidentally injurs or kills themselves with one of your hidden weapons.

My son can handle himself quite well. I don't "shelter" him, I just feel there's no need to expose him to uneccesary violence if I don't have to. He's 9 and over halfway to his blackbelt. He's raised in a family with ex military and a few cop uncles.

Like I said, he can handle himself, but I'd never keep a weapon within his reach (though he has been taught how to handle and respect firearms I feel it's not wise to give him access in case of an emergeny).
