Are any of you addicted to Panda Express? Orange Chicken? mmm mmm b!tch

hehe

I've been losing weight lately and have given up this place for the most part...from time to time I go. I'm addicted.

I had a friend that went to vegas, took a bunch of pictures on his digi cam, deleted almost all of them except for the candid of him at a Las Vegas Panda Express. Addiction at it's finest. :)

I prefer authentic Chinese food. But I guess that's close enough if there's nothing else. But come on, if you are in vegas, there's this awsome Dim Sum place.

Had it for the first time this weekend. Not bad not great. I could take it or leave it. My wife loves it though.

I like Panda Express, so there! :p

Just curious people, would anybody care to point me to an "authentic" Chinese restaurant? A chain, in particular, unless you know something specific in Houston.

I agree with you that Panda Express is unauthentic and not very good, but the locations in my area clearly state on their menus that they do not use msg.
I think they're way overpriced too.

There really aren't any good, authentic Chinese chains, because the best Chinese restaurants are family-owned and operated. Come to think of it, this applies to most (all?) other cuisines as well IMO. There are some decent, local chain Asian restaurants (the Lotus VN restaurants in the Minneapolis area come to mind), but for the most part you need to find a good local place. There can't be any lack of restaurant reviews for places in Houston - get Googling!

I've dined there a few times, their garlic noodles isn't too bad. For only $4.95

Most of the good chinese food I've ever had are in/near the dc area.

Hunan Palace (Gaithersburg?) - Good Taiwanese snacks
Hunan #1 (?) - Good froglegs and steamed gigantic oysters on the half shell with soy sauce.
Harvest Moon (Fairfax) - Very good Asian wedding party cusine.
Some place in Eden Center (Arlington) - The best buttered soft shell crab with pepper and salt

That was a generality, I've eaten there once in my life and never gone back. (Most Chinese "restaurants" tend to use MSG) My mistake :)

Sounds like an unofficial slogan

"unauthentic asian food filled with msg and sodium"

there are TONS of authentic chinese places in houston, take a look around the bellaire area, tons there. some good ones just east of downtown as well. one of the better 'asian' places in town is Kim Son, just NE of the 45-59 interchange. they're sort of a chain, so there might be one out near you (i think there is one west of fountain view on westheimer, for instance.)

The problem is that some of the cheap places are great (no MSG and not overly salty) and places that are suppose to be good use tons of MSG. Chinese food is tricky business. Personally I only goto one place for Chinese food (in the rare event I go out to eat it). Doesn't hurt that my cousin is the manager;)
