I'm about ready to pull the trigger on this

I made a few minor changes to my config to keep it close to $1,500. I'm looking to buy my wife a laptop soon, so that lowers my budget a bit.

I'm hoping to order this config over the weekend from Newegg.

This look good?

Are you planning on Overclocking? If so you might want a better CPU cooler then a stock fan.

You setup looks good. Only thing I would change would probably be the HSF if u plan on overclocking and the DVD burner. Would get a NEC or Plextor DVD burner instead

No, I'm not an overclocker. I'll speed up my system by getting better CPU's as they get cheaper.

500W seasonic, save some pennies. I'm assuming you know just how uneconomical DDR2 800 and the XFI are? Very nice choices, but not bang/buck.

Even if you're not overclocking, I would still get an aftermarket HSF for your setup. Articl Cooling Freezer Pro 7 from provantage.com is only $22 and will serve your system way better than the hunk of crap Intel threw in the retail C2D box.

If your not going to O\C I would suggest the following.

1)Save money on you RAM buy buying some DDR2-667 sticks. From all the reviews I have read the difference between DDR 800 and DDR 667 is minimal ESPECIALLY if you are not overclocking.

2)If you are a mid range gamer- I would suggest saving money buy buying this video card

3)Buy saving that cash you can buy a C2D 6600 which would make this a really nice system.

if you were overclocking would you suggest getting 800 and staying with a e6400 or getting 667 and an e6600?

Why does everyone recommend DDR2 667 for non-OC, isn't 533 stock? Do you really get any kind of benefit out of running async, or am I missing something?

Yeah, if you're not going to OC (for sure), stick with cheap PC4200. Hell I've got Samsung PC4200 that does 667 effortlessly anyway. You can buy it for like $30 per 512MB (or less).

You don't need that Corsair, for sure. It's great RAM but you'd be wasting it (and your money).
