It's a fine thing to explore your roots, good sir. Being a pirate was about making the best out of a bad situation. No one became one because there was land to till or enough fish to catch and sell, or because they had another trade and suddenly became bored.

Be proud that your forebears were survivors . . . independent businessmen, entrepreneurs of the high seas, as it were. If they hadn't done what they needed to do to survive, you literally wouldn't be here.

So be proud, my friend. Or Belgian. You have choices, and the world is full of possibilities.

I'm going to have to disagree, I'm quite sure there were plenty of young men who faced with the choice of a lifetime behind a plow/net or the possibility(fantasy) of riches and adventure as a pirate chose the second.
