Hello,

As my topic says Im a newbie when it comes to this stuff. I have just recently built my first pc and am looking to network it with my older machine. My new system is as follows:

Motherboard: Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Processor: AMD athlon xp barton 2500+
RAM: Infinieon DDR2700

Im planning on using the A7N8X's dual network cards to run my network but don't really know what to do. The two computers which I will be networking are pretty much side by side. Please help me, any suggesting and advice that you can give would be great. Thanks for the help.

P.S. I would like to try to keep this network as simple as possible ;)

As simple as possible, eh? Then here's how the hardware should prolly be set up:

computer 1 > crossover-cable > computer 2

Presumably, if you use broadband, you can have two ethernet cables going into your newer machine.

EDIT: Of course, using your newer machine in place of a router means that you won't have internet access on the older machine if computer #1 is turned off. But that prolly isn't much a problem.

IMO, this is a no-brainer! Buy a cheap broadband router on a rebate deal. Less than $20 will get you into the game, and it's childs play to network the computers and share the Internet with it.
