Started my DC career with SETI@home on Sun Jun 13 04:45:37 1999 UTC with a Pentium 233 MMX, moved on after a couple of years to Folding @home and then , after trying this and that to D²OL. For whatever reason, I don't know, I'm now totally pissed off with this project, but I can't find anything that has dragged me in as much: HELP!!!

Hey TAandy! If you're looking for another project, come take a look at Lifemapper. I remember seeing ur name there...Don't know when you stopped, but the client has changed a lot recently, and is now very very stable!

We're crunching like mad and the LM TeAm is doing awesome, but still more crunching power is needed...;)

Crying out loud, Ken used to tell us more :(
Edit:
I'm just trying to say that after nearly three years I would like to see something in return, aka FaD, get a result, get mentioned as such.

I know... it's just hard to watch the team disintegrate... you've been a rock for this team sticking through it pretty much right from the start, and I give you a lot of credit for that... I abandoned the project once because of the crappy client and when I came back, there you were still! Just hard to watch this happen is all :(

Tell me about it. node 455 is one of the oldest (if not THE oldest) producing node(s) going, I like/love the idea of this project, the lack of support grinds me down :(
And yes, I hate seeing the former #1 team going down the tubes too, it pisses me off, but what can you do? Charles says these things take time, so does nearly every other DC project from what I can see, but they still produce results in less than three years
Edit:
Slightly pissed at the moment :)
This post is on the subject that got me interested in D²Ol at the start. After a while I forgot about the money and just concentrated on what we were doing, ie looking for a cure for Anthrax, Ebola and Smallpox with Botulism and Plague coming soon- three years later - still no Botulism and Plague. <sigh>

Well you know we will support you over at FaD, feel free to come in and try it out. I'm sure you'll like it, I have done Seti, and UD many years ago, I like the FaD format much better.

I think the lack of support they were talking about was from the project organizers. TeAm AnandTech generally has excellent support for our members.

Speaking of which: TAandy, please try to hold on to hope for meaningful results from DC projects. These are compute intensive projects. As time goes on more people join with faster and faster computers. We are getting to the point where there is enough computer power to get some real work done.

I get bored easily as well and jump from project to project trying them all out :)

Just as long as you find yourself crunching for the TA banner it will all be good :)

Good luck in your search!

Well, going the BOINC-route can be an idea, since this way you can crunch a little seti, a little astropulse, a little climateprediction (well you should finnish the wu...), a little prediction... Ok, currently only the 1st and last is up and running, but you get the idea, and more like folding@home should hopefully soon follow.
If you're using the same email-address, the different BOINC-stats-sites will show your total credit regardless of which of these you're crunching, so you'll not start on zero again even you jump around a lot. :)

TAandy,

Folding@Home is quite a bit different now than when you tried it. The WUs are worth more points, so it doesn't take as long to get a high score. (there are a few that still take a while to finish though) We have a couple newer people that are advancing fast, you could race them! :)

Stanford is more interested in the research, but they do listen to their contributors concerns, and when possible implement our good ideas!

They are improving their client, with v5 in beta testing!

:)

I don't want to talk you into leaving one project and joining another, but if that's how you feel, maybe FaD is for you then. It meets the "I want to make a difference" criteria (I started FaD because my grandpa passed away from cancer). It meets the "I want to see results" criteria because FaD has already found anti-Cancer and other drugs like that. And it meets the "I want to be noticed" criteria because when you find a potential cure for something, you get a really cool certificate. And if you get bored crunching for anti-cancer drugs, you can start looking for anti-HIV or other diseases.
