I'm a little po'ed at Acronis. (Rant). Suggestions?

Acronis Backup has done a "stellar" (sarcastic) job of backing up my files. The user interface is easy to figure out and my wife who has a photography business and does a lot of work in Photoshop and hence backs up every day.
However, backing up is one thing...restoring is another. Last week she had a hd go out and after replacing it I figure no big deal, I'll just reimage the drive with the Acronis backup .tib files on her external hd.
Errors were encountered while reimaging the drive so I eventually gave up and decided to just reinstall Windows and Apps and then drag and drop data folders and files from the Acronis image. Even this was sporadic. Although I could "see" most of the folders that were supposed to be within the image, a lot of them were empty and the ones that were not encountered I/O errors when trying to copy them to the new hd. All in all it has been a nightmare and I would be hard pressed to recommend this software. I'm sure somehow this is user error but a user shouldn't have to have a crystal ball to see if backup software will work as it should.
Comments and/or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

Acronis (I am assuming you mean TrueImage?) has saved my finaces bacon more than once. She actually has "important" data, while mine is all replaceable. Also she's actually had a problem while I have not *knock on wood*. I found it easy to use and easy to restore partial files and the image. I was even able to get some files to my computer while we waitied for her replacment hard drive for her laptop.

Anyhow; I don't recall at the moment, since it's been a while sine I used it, but there should be an option to verify/check the images. I have my fiance do this periodically (after each backup in fact). Because, as you have found out, there is nothing worse than restoring files that were not properly backed up. 🙁

I always verify when burning files to CD or DVD with nero.

People think that because the backup app didn't crash or error that the write to the media was flawless, but that isn't the case. With CD/DVD the disc could be defective in spots and with external HDs there could be bad sectors or uncaught I/O errors.

The best thing to do is never trust any one drive or disc. Don't just verify, also backup to more than one disc or HD, preferably using 2 different types and programs.

Yes I did verify the image after the last backup as I always do. That makes this all the more frustrating.
I just don't feel like I can trust it again. I'm going to look around for another piece of software that may do it.

Maybe you should just clone the drive to others so there is no issue with backup image containers. The photos themselves could also be drag 'n' dropped to DVD-RAM. Besides that, do image the Windows volume to DVD so that it at least never needs to be reinstalled.
