I have an Abit KT7 mb with a 1Ghz athlon on a 200mhz bus. Could I buy a 266 1.4 athlon and up the FSB to 133mhz and hence 266?? Would this give the same performance as a KT7A? I am not understanding this.

Why not just overclock the 1.0 you have. If you have decent stepping on your chip you should be able to get it to at least 1300. Just run the FSB at 133 and see what you get.

Nah, tried that. I have one of the first 1GHz and it doesn't even clock to 1100 no matter what settings I use e.t.c. I would like to get a 1.4 to 1.5 if it is possible, hence my earlier question.

to your original question the answer is no

the kt7 is based on the via kt133 chipset and it only supports 100mhz fsb (some motherboards have jumpers/bios settings for fsb speeds in excess of 133mhz, but the boards wont run at that speed)

realistically about the best overclock you can get on a kt133 chipset is 105mhz-115mhz... the kt133 is a very poor fsb overclocker

but... you can buy a newer tbird and assuming its unlocked you can run the fsb at 100mhz and increase the multiplier to 14x (giving you a 1.4ghz system)

when you tryed to overclock your chip did un use fsb or multi. or both/ is you cpu unlocked? you also might want to increase the volts. if you did not. you understand most Kt7 boards will only do about 110 fsb give or take afew. I believe you would need a 133a chipset to get your fsb to a stock 133. hope this helps
