Oh. How the hell do you keep up with every single thread's subject? And remember the inside joke, AND the author. I wouldn't know what he was talking about. What's a taint anyways? Since he got burned in his thread?

Why don't you read the thread to find out what it is.

Yeah i got it. Space between anus and balls.

The electrons are not moving in precise orbits around the nucleus of the atom. They usually move in orbitals which are areas of probability where they may be located. Therefore the space between the nucleus and the electrons is freely traversed by electrons moving at a very fast velocity in their assigned orbitals nonetheless creating an electron "cloud" with probabilities where they can be located at.

Despite the amazing amount of abuse you've gotten, and deserved I might add, it depends on the model. ;-)

In the Bohr model of the atom, there is nothing. This (simpler) model is the one used in explanations of spectral emissions. X-rays, light etc. If you take a basic physics class, this will be the model you primarily deal with. Like planets orbiting a sun.

A more accurate accepted model is the quantum version. This model describes an atom using wave mechanics. Think Schrodinger. Instead of predefined energy levels, an electron has a certain probability of being in a given range.

My mental image involves a core and essentially, an electron "cloud" wherein there are darker bands (spheres?) of higher probability.

But hey, I'm not a physicist.

Ok, you know there's a nucleous, and around the nucleous there's the electron cloud and electrons.. Well in the space between the nucleus and the 1st electron, is it nothingness? Whats there?

A genius wouldn't have to ask.

A genius would be able to spell nucleus.

How does that explain the misplaced "o"? 😕

They learned you badly, although you got favourite right.

D-

Considering that we can never, ever be certain of the location of an electron, and that electron shells represent only probabilities...

I'm going to say "an electron... maybe." 🙂
