Unemployed means you are actively looking for a job but you can't seem to get one. Also, employers can fire or let you go in special ways which makes it impossible to collect unemployment. Otherwise, yes you should be able to get unemployment.

but you won't qualify because you can always get a job on campus and the government will just claim you don't want to take it

But how long have you been working? You're only eligble for UI if you have worked a set number of weeks prior getting layed off.

I've been working for this company for about a year. They screw me every chance they get, and I'm sick of it. I want to get fired so I can collect umemployment. Also, if you get fired in the middle of a sem. heading towards summer... i could collect unemployment until the end of the summer and be fine. =)

Getting fired from a job (for cause) can result in 6-8 weeks delay before you are able to collect. One can appeal such findings; that will take 3-4 weeks to process.

When you file your (bi)weekly claim you have to state that you are actively looking for work full time and able to accept a postiion similar to one that you had.

If being in school prevents such options...

Do you wish to take a chance on fraud.

at least in Indiana, you can't collect unemployment if you're a full time student, because that is considered your job.

also, you can only collect if you are terminated through no fault of your own, and you must actively seek employment while collecting - every week I think it is you have to do an interview somewhere, and have that company sign a form saying you interviewed.

It depends on your state's unemployment law.

I know in VA if you lose your job and are attending school you could get unemployment if

1) your school schudele does not interfear with finding a job

and

2) you are actively looking for employment

and we wonder why taxes are so high, get a different job or a loan, dont be a little bitch about it and suck it up. stop trying to get off free

to bad the internet is anon or i would send your state this so they knew you what you were doing and then you wouldnt get a cent. maybe youd even spend some time in prison for fraud. oh that would include mail fraud to since you have to send your form in :)

I was in a position to collect unemployment while a full-time student. I was told by the local office that I could get benefits, but they'd be reduced dramatically.

I don't remember the exact number, but it was basically enough to cover food for the month.

Seeing as I was going to my home-town college, I just moved back in with my parents.

Boy are you showing your true colors and they sure aren't pretty. You are a whiney little bitch who doesn' like his job, join the clup and the real world. What makes you different from the vast majority of people is you think it is OK to purposely get fired so you can collect unemployment and suck off the taxpayers. You are a douchebag.

If you don't like your job then find another or quit and do without like a real man would.

Well in Va if you get fired because of fault of your own you do not qualify.
Meaning if you stop showing up for work and they fire you or something to that effect.

I was fired November 14th and as of Monday this week I am now exempt from the work search for at least enough time to complete this quarter in school in the state of Georgia. The quarter starts January 3rd. I have always worked a second job where I get another 24hrs on the weekend. Strangely, my check is only $111 while my friend, who was fired a week later and started after me gets close to $200. I can't figure out why this is because they can't subtract funds just because I have another job when I've had it all along! It's supposed to be compensation for a certain percent of any significant drop in income and the drop was the exact same as my friend's. I'll have to talk to them about this.
