Try looking in the lower cabinets and closets. For all you know your cat is still in your place.

We live outside the city limits so it is not unnormal to hear gunshots, especially during deer season. We pretty much know who did this as were friends with most of the neighbors but no one around us was home and heard the shot, but we had nothing against him until this happened. We called the Sheriff's office and they wen to the veterinary clinic and retrevied the bullet. I doubt they do anything with it though.

I hope we do catch him because I am going to hand him this 1500 dollar vet bill.

You can do a lot more than just hand him a vet bill. A LOT.

I just got into work so now i have a chance to respond to all the posts.

First: my cat did not come back

2nd: thanks everyone for either wishing me luck or praying for me.

3rd: im still very very deeply saddened. im pissed off, distraught, angry, frustrated. im not even exagerrating. it feels stupid to be so worked up about i pet. i never understood, this being my first pet but it feels like my own son or something at that level.

4th: ive tried craigslist and i will put up flyers asap. LA county has a great website: http://animalcare.lacounty.gov/LostFoundSearch.asp to look for your lost pet.
i went out again at 12 midnight in the frikken cold for a good 30 more minutes to no avail.

5th: again this is not a parody, heres a pic of my cat cuddled up on my ass when i was in bed. i wish i had some fart in me.

6th: i did leave food and water for him last night, my roommate is fing stupid as shit, shes the worst single mother in the world, feeds her 5-6year olds instant ramen every night. she says it might have ran out cause she leaves the door open sometimes. my cat IS an indoor cat, and i live in Antelope valley 1 hour north of LA but still in LA county. its 2.5k ft elevation so it gets below freezing at night. thats why im extra worried.

Fuck all you cat haters.

I really feel for you. I had a similar experience last summer but luckily the weather was warm and sunny the whole time and I found my kitty within a day of her going missing. Of course, that 24-hour period was accompanied by a lot of panicking, putting up lost cat notices on Craigslist, on telephone poles, and at shelters, and comforting my wife. I couldn't keep from crying either. It's really tough.

All I can say is remember that cats will usually stay close by. I found mine just a couple houses down at night. She was probably hunkered down during the day and became more active at night. I would suggest going out at night to look for him, you might have a better shot.

Uh, it didn't occur to her that she shouldn't leave the door open with an indoor cat in the place?

Punch her in the face.

My cat is weird. He loves to look out the windows and doors but has never tried to leave. If I walked out he would probably follow.

OP, I hope your cat finds its way home. I'm terribly attached to my cat...we got her at two days old, and I bottle fed her. I'm the only "momma" she's ever known...and even though I wasn't ever a cat hater, I never really liked cats before this one.
She turned 14 this year...when she finally goes, I KNOW I'm gonna blubber like a fucking baby.

I have full sympathy for your loss. I took in a abandon cat left behind by the previous residents where I live. He became my best buddy over the last couple of years so I can fully appreciate the bond between pets and their care givers. When it gets really cold at night. I noticed that outdoor cats like to sleep under cars and absorb the warmth radiating after the motor after its been running. You may want to go out on a night scouting trip in the neighborhood checking under vehicles.

Seriously dude, the temperature should be the least of your concerns. We used to have indoor/outdoor cats who would sleep outside at night in temperatures below 0 degrees F. If it was going to come back on its own it probably would have by now. There are millions of stray cats living outdoors in real winter conditions. Hell, there are even stray cats in Alaska where temperatures can drop to 50 below or worse.

It either
A) Got hit by a car
B) Ran away
C) Got picked up by a new owner

Hope it comes back dude. I know it sucks that you can't really do much about it other then put up posters and check CL/SPCA but don't give up hope. Lost several cats for a couple days in cold Philly weather and except for one they all hung around the area and were found by someone and returned or found their way back home. Yeah there's an empty feeling while s/he's gone and it's hard to shake the feeling something bad happened but don't give up hope.

Yep definitely true that they will remain close by. Mine ran out the door one night and was hiding in the neighbor's yard all scared. The dog found him and chased him back inside. :)

I had this type of thing happen a couple times with an indoor cat I had many years ago. The cat would be gone for a couple of days and eventually come back - hope this is your situation, and your kitty makes his way back home.

career: a person's progress or general course of action through life or through a phase of life.

Seems to fit perfectly by this definition.

I hope your cat returns safely OP. Never apologize or feel bad for having empathy and showing love for your pet. Someone who's never had a pet won't understand, but we pet owners totally do.

Oh c'mon! It's just like any other job.

  1. You start here because it's available even though you know you're cut out for better things.
  2. Many if not most of your co-workers are annoying.
  3. People get regularly promoted to a better title just for showing up.
  4. The pay sucks.
  5. The bosses are evil retards. No one can figure out how they got their positions.
  6. There are tons of chicken-shite do's and don'ts. God help you if you don't conform to them.
  7. The health plan basically consists of "Don't get sick."
  8. There's scarcely more than one woman in the entire place, and the one's who are there get far more positive attention than they really deserve.
  9. You've tried to explain to others what you do here all day and why it's important, but you know no one really cares or even understands.
  10. You can't think of one truly superlative aspect of the entire place, but, admit it, you'd be sad. adrift and bereft if it suddenly disappeared.

Sucky situation, but cats are good at finding their way home if they get out.

My mom had a cat that had NEVER gone outside for over 15 years, but one day it ran out the door. My mom assumed that she was gone forever, but about a week later, she was meowing outside the door. No idea where she went or what she did, but, she opted to come back.

Don't stress and worry about what you can't control. Be hopeful, but really, all you can do is just live your life and see what happens.

And like most jobs, doing a good job here is like peeing your pants while wearing a dark suit...it gives you a warm feeling for a few minutes...but nobody else notices...:p

im 24 and got my first pet ever, a adopted 1.5year old cat, who i called fig. ive only had it for about 2 months and ive truly bonded with my cat. i've never had another pet, and this weekend my roomate said she'd watch it for me when i was gone for 2 days. now im back and she says she doesnt know where it went. ive been looking for the last 5 hours, i checked los angeles's county lost and found website, nothing there, nothing on craigslist. i will post fliers tonight for the cat...

but ive really lost alot of hope. it gets below freezing out here, and ive searched by foot around the neighborhood with a bag of treats/a red lazer pen and i cant find it. i asked a bunch of neighbors and everyhting. i dont even know what im saying.

im just very sad and i want to cry =*(

yeah, I can't tell if she has 6 5 year-olds, or several kids that are between 5 and 6.

either way, a rather unfavorable living situation.
