Why not try identity theft?

Do you and your farzah share the same name. Surely, you could straighten the SSN's out.

#1 - is you dad's and your name the same?

The exact same name.

#2 - has your dad been using your SSN to take out loans?

No. Example: When I went to get my state identification card even the Secretary of State had trouble telling who was who. I took them 30 minutes just to make sure I was me.

#3 - contact an attorney
Depends how much they cost.

#4 - have your dad obtain credit reports under HIS SSN and compare them
He does not trust the computer. And I hate snail mail. It would take a week or two before his credit report comes. I want to get this sh!t fixed before that.

As much as you want it to, it will NOT be settled immediately.

Go through the proper chanells, and it WILL be taken care of satisfactorily.

There was some good advice for you earlier.

"Don't waste money on a lawyer. They won't do anything you can't do. Talk to each of those companies that show as a debt on you credit report and have them send you a letter making the distinction between yourselfa nd your dad. Then contact the credit agency with said info. Annoying process but it can be done quite easily."

Take the time to get this worked out, it's worth it.

edit: I some how I managed to rack up an approximate $40,000 in debt.: disgust; I work as an actor making around $12k a year. That adds up to bad ju-ju. Little by little, I'm making a dent in the debt. my gut tells me to avoid bankruptcy at all cost, though I'm not sure.

You don;t need a lawyer. Write to the 3 major credit companies and tell them that is not your info and they have it wrong. They will replay with what to do/send to prove other wise

Yeah, what he said.

But seriously dude, expect at a minimum of 6 months for this to resolve itself, if not longer. Because every creditor will think first that your the REAL debtor, just trying to get out and every creditor will be extremely skeptical. I would turn my Dad in right away, but some folks aren't so hard core. You will prob have your dad going to jail over his little indiscretion And you REALLY need to get a hard-copy of your Credit Report from ALL THREE credit agencies. Don't rely on just one, as there can be things on Transunion that may be wrong, but isn't on the Exquifax report.

(It might not help, but I know some states require Credit Agencies to give you a free copy of your credit report every 6 months, or once a year. At least in Massachusetts thats how they do it.)

Good Luck man. And have patience, this will take a while and will VERY tedious to fix.

eh? i would get a lawyer. Credit is way to important to mess around with. IF you can prove it was not you then get it fixed ASAP. wich will cost the time of a lawyer.

if it is all a mistake, you won't need a lawyer

if your dad did any of it on purpose, then that might be different

sounds most likely that they all just got the two of you mixed up, so after a crap load of letters, it will probably get straight

This sounds like it will easily take a few months to straighten out.

You need to seriously talk with your dad and find out if there is ANY chance he used your SSN for anything, ever. From the circumstances, it sounds pretty likely.
