First rule learned in law school...never sue poor people.

although generally true, its not always the case. I mean take a look at the RIAA situation: you cant expect only wealthy people to be infringing so what do you do? Sue the poor to make a strong statement that nobody gets away with it.

Ya, but even when you do end up suing poor people, you generally don't get more than a few thousand. There are exceptions of course, but they are few and far between. Most of the time, the money being paid isn't really a result of suing. They prefer to use the term "fines to be paid to such and such" such as the RIAA. The point is that you won't be ruined for life or anything.

They can sue you for more than you have, then you owe them money. Do you want to screw up your credit?

..they don't care if you have no money. The game is to get the judgement against you NOW so future assets can be attacked. you won't stay poor for ever.

What happens if I get struck by lightning?

Well if you're standing in TMNT mutagen ooze, then you'll become Lightningman. Considering you have no money your story will be closer to that of Spiderman than that of Batman.

Winner.

They will take the judgement against you and if you ever get money they will get the court to garnish your wages/put a lien on your house/whatever else they want to do.
