illustrator question

I am trying to open an image on illustrator cs 2. The file is hanging on the prograss bar. The computer in question is a mac with osx, 1.25 g4, and 1 gb of ram. I do not understand why it would take so long to open an image, it has been hours now. Any help?

Does this occur on other machines?

I'm not sure, I only have this program for the mac. I just got the program, and this is the first time I have run into this problem.

I'm not sure what exactly the problem is as I have never run into that problem on Illustrator. I take it that other files of the same format work fine?

This is the first time I have seen this issue. So far it is just the .ai format that has caused such a big slowdown. I will test some other files of the same format.
