illnois-Thunder storm keeping anyone else up?

we had a ton of lightning here in Phoenix...and big storms coming in from the east..but the damn mountains broke them up and we got like 6 drops of rain. 🙁 sucked.
 
Well last week we had a huge lightning storm in the middle of the night... HUGE. It was litterally almost constant light outside, and it was LOUD.

And then 2 weeks ago we had a huge, rotating super-cell floating above us, with lots of funnel clouds. It was cool

Yeah... but can somebody explain to me why it seems that all the big storms ALWAYS seem to come in the middle of the night? I've wondered it all my life... all the really big storms seem to come in the dead of night, ALWAYS. We would have maybe 2-3 big storms during the day, and it seems sometimes like it'll storm every night at like 3 am. 😕

Well there was one earlier today that downpoured on us for maybe 45 seconds, some lightning... I'm in Lake Zurich, by the way, southern Lake County. I hear a bit of thunder coming from the west, but it seems to be tapering off.

Didn't get any rain here in Gurnee earlier, hope the storm doesn't pass through here.
