Illinois Senator punched after calling out another senator on a conflict of interest

http://www.wqad.com/videobeta/21dc5...ews/Former-Sheriff-says-he-saw-Senator-Jacobs

Statement on the confrontation between Sens. Kyle McCarter and Mike Jacob which occurred following debate on Senate Bill 1652:
During the debate on Senate Bill 1652, I called attention to a process which allowed a 150-page bill with a $3.7 billion impact on Illinois electric ratepayers to come up for a vote in the last hours of the legislative session after only receiving a six minute hearing in committee.

The bill was sponsored – and ushered through this process -- by Sen. Mike Jacobs, chairman of the Energy Committee, whose father is also a registered lobbyist for Commonwealth Edison, the primary beneficiary of the legislation.

After the debate, Sen. Jacobs came to my seat on the floor of the Illinois Senate – using profanity and pointing his finger before he punched me with his fist in my chest. A colleague rose to calm the situation but the Senator continued using profanity with other senators nearby.

The legislative process is in need of sunshine and accountability not a process that picks winners based on money, power, backroom deals or slick political maneuvering by powerful, connected lobbyists. The legislative process and behavior we were treated to tonight give our state a black eye and the citizens of Illinois should not tolerate it.

Sen. Jacob’s behavior was uncalled for and beneath the dignity of the Senate.

Illinois politics as usual? This guy tries to call another senator out for being shady, and he actually gets assaulted for it.

When they start shooting each other again like old days it'll put a smile on face.

At this point if it passes, it will look pretty shitty on their part. The senator made a good point, and that's why the other guy got pissed.

Who cares who yelled at who or punched who? I want to know if the Bill passed or not. Anyone know?

According to this, the senate approved the bill
After the Senate approved the bill, Jacobs walked across the Senate chamber and stood by McCarter’s desk as he presented a resolution naming a state highway.
Once that finished, McCarter said Jacobs began “using profanity and pointing his finger before he punched me with his fist in my chest.”

How about a federal charge of attacking an federally elected official and kicking the offender out of his job for being charged with a felony.

I support more fights in the senate. Kyle McCarter needs to introduce Senate Bill 1653, "Fisticuffs".

There's really not much that can be done for IL other than the entire state, save for Chicago, and Crook Co. and St. Clair Co., split off to form an entire seperate entity. If that could be done, then the rest of the state could - in theory - survive long term.

But since that will a.) never happen and b.) never happen, IL is essentially doomed.

Them's the breaks...

Any one watch the video and see something wrong with it? Jacobs is a Democrat, but they put a R by his name. Ooops!

I'd question Jacobs to his face about his integrity considering he couldn't man up and give a civil interview about the situation. Are we surprised though? The guy got caught doing something unethical. You can't push a bill through that has your daddy lobbying it and expect to be exempt from a conflict of interest. It is a damn conflict of interest and should be investigated.

hehe, did the opposite to the other guy as well. It's Fox, no surprise.

fwiw Cook Co is Chicago, and St. Clair county is the illinois side of St. Louis.

Yep, I know. But I didn't want people to get confused with me saying Chicago and not including the rest of Cook. And I lived in Fairview Heights and O'Fallon (IL) for 3 years...that Co. would need to be included in such a plan.

Like Crook Co. though, if such a plan was enacted, there'd be a few towns that would do everything they could to get out of Crook and either into an existing non-Crook Co., or, form a new Co. that'd be part of the 'Red' division, i.e. "Lincoln Co.".

One can only dream though...something like this would never happen (except possibly the Lincoln Co. deal).
