Illinois Man On Lawn Mower Charged With DUI

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. -- When authorities warned an Illinois man not to drink and drive, it may not have been clear to him that the prohibition also applies to lawn mowers.

He's now charged with riding his lawn mower on a public street while intoxicated and with a revoked license.

The man, who has two previous DUI convictions, was pulled over this week in Fairview Heights.

Police say he refused to stop and shouted obscenities when a patrol car responded to a complaint about a man driving a lawn mower erratically in the street.

They say he had his 1-year-old daughter on his lap at the time.

Police say it's illegal to drive any motor vehicle while intoxicated and to drive one on a public road without a license.

If he was driving on his own lawn then it'd obviously be illegal to pull him over, but the guy's obviously a drunk if he's driving a lawnmower in the street with his 1-year-old daughter on his lap.

Personally, I hope he gets the book thrown at him.

You know, try as I might I really can't get our lawn mower to drive erradically...its just to slow and the steer is to unresponsive.

Is it illegal to drive a vehicle on your own property while intoxicated?

Well you can be giving moving violations on bicycles, like going through stop signs and traffic lights.

So if your on the road in your John Deer I don't see why you shouldn't get DUI if your intoxicated.

This is true: A farmer around here got his license revoked. (Don't remember if it was DUI or what) He used to just ride his tractor to the grocery store after that. Talk about a waste of fuel.

Maybe not, but it's illegal to ignore the fact that the thread mentions he was driving it on a public street.
