If you're not familiar with the new law here is a link to read about it.

Here is another link to the actual bill that was passed but it reads very legal in the same way that most legislation does.

Here is another link regarding the lawsuit that was filed. The lawsuit is VERY limited in it's scope.

As a resident in the State of Illinois I'm kind of up in the air on this one. I understand that the Constitution gives every citizen the right to own firearms but on the other hand I do understand that some gun control is needed. Especially in states like Illinois that have so much gun violence and have had it for so many years.

FWIW I don't own a firearm and never will.

"high cap" magazine ban is a feel good IMO, but at the same time, do what you can. if we're at the point of discussing how many people a shooter can kill, we've already failed pretty hard.

i'm curious about the "switches" mentioned. if that's a switch been semi- and auto or burst, that should make the firearm a machinegun, IIRC. which makes the regulation on it out of this world and open up the owners to very stiff penalties for not having a registration.

registration of semi-auto rifles is a good thing.

i'd prefer to see bans on just about everything (bolt action rifle, pump action shotgun remain legal for hunting) but that's a bit of a pipe dream. maybe in another 40-50 years, when kids who've grown up practicing active shooter drills are in power, then they can finally make a real change.

Can someone explain how registration infringes on the right to bear arms?

We got 6-year-olds shooting teachers, 11-year-olds getting hit by stray bullets from a 14-year-old's trying to shoot a 14-year-old, We have mass shooters buying guns the day of or day before a mass shooting, We have toddlers walking around with guns, We have domestic violence rates that are only exacerbated by guns in the home - and some people are still up in the air about basic gun control.

Amazing.

Another day, another mass shooting in America as we debate whether gun control is necessary.

They absolutely do, and it absolutely is already a serious federal crime. Maybe some benefit to having a parallel state crime?

Like Virgina and DC.
I95 has the nickname the Iron Pipeline. Guns constantly smuggled from shithole southern regressive states that like to sell guns like candy, the iron pipeline delivers them to cities like Baltimore, Philadelphia, NYC and Boston. And a bunch of cities in between.

~Delaware law banning "assault weapons" and standard-capacity magazines that was signed last year, just days after the Supreme Court issued a Second Amendment ruling, is now being challenged by 20 states.

~On July 10, a coalition of 20 states filed an amicus brief supporting the Delaware State Sportsmen's Association in its lawsuit against the Delaware Department of Safety and Homeland Security. The coalition argues two Delaware bills violate the Constitution and that lower courts that upheld the law failed to read the Supreme Court's 2022 Bruen v. New York Rifle & Pistol Association ruling properly, which held gun laws must conform with the nation's historical tradition of firearms regulation.

Not Illinois but Delaware is also banning some guns despite the recent rulings
