Illegal Operation Nightmare

I have an interesting problem on my current system that's really pissing me off. It's pretty much two-fold, so bear with me:

1) Lately I've been getting illegal operations in Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer almost every 15 seconds. It only seems to effect those two "explorers" and I can't figure out why that would be (i get illegal operations on other apps as well, but not NEARLY as much as i do with the two that i mentioned). I've already reformatted and reinstalled windows twice (win98se) and have no idea why it keeps happening. ~help~

2) This concerns Diablo II. When I'm playing the game, sometimes I can go hours with no problems and no skips, and other times it freezes after 5 minutes or blue-screens. I have a Voodoo3 3000 installed on a crappy amd k6-2 400 cpu. Is this the voodoo card? Motherboard? Combination of both? I have the latest drivers (july 4th) of the voodoo3, and diablo II isn't exactly 3d intensive, so I don't THINK it's the card, but I could be wrong.

I would appreciate any ideas and help.

I could be way off, but didn't those old AMD processors and/or motherboards have some serious AGP problems?

I don't know, you're probably right.

What about the illegal operation deal? It hasn't always been doing this. :|

You said you've formatted and reinstalled? Have you tried a good virus scan with updated DAT files and virus engine? Maybe try getting something like ZoneAlarm and making sure you don't have a trojan like NetBus or BackOrifice.

Maybe try formatting your MBR? I'd say that's last resort, though.
