Illegal entry by apartment management

My roommate told me today a note was left in our apartment over spring break stating someone from apartment management had entered our apartment to check on the furniture.

Since this wasn't an emergency, did they illegally enter our apartment because they never gave notice? Plus the only furniture belonging to the apartment are two chairs.

I've read over the lease, which appears to be a standard TAA lease, and I can't find anything about the apartment management letting themselves in for situations like this.

Maybe they gave notice, and you missed it somehow?

In the past, our management has sent out emails alerting us if they're going to be coming by changing locks and whatnot, but I've missed the notice on several occaisons. Incidentally, over spring break last week we got a new stove-tops without notice.

If they tried to contact you to give notice and you were away, like during spring break, they're covered.

This is why I would suggest changing the lock the day you sign the lease.

They only need to give advance notice (48 hours here in WA), which they probably did but you were gone. An emergency just lets them enter immediately without needing to wait.

if there's nothing specific in the lease, then it's probably OK. I've seen both types--usually they mention they will only show up with 24-48 hr notice, or nothing at all. I've even seen leases that say they will enter without notice if necessary. That was a while ago....

Not so sure you can do that legally, right? Not the leasee's property.

Yah, I'm guessing that's what happen. I think they should still email or call me rather than relying on a note that can be taken or blown away.

It could have been worse. I left for winter break when I lived in Illinois and I came back to find the front door open. A small snow drift had formed in the living room. The exterminator always leaves a note to let you know he had come in.

Nothing missing... and the apartment management didn't give a damn.
