It's sad that some in this thread think its a bad thing for someone to complain about their pay in prison because they are "criminals". Well I hate to break it to you but at least half of those are people who were convicted of non-violent offenses. I don't consider that to be a true criminal. Human Rights exists regardless of where the prisoner may reside.
True criminals (those convicted of violent offenses or fraud) should have the option to work at whatever the given rate for that job entails, if available. Here's a hint, it's not $1 an hr. I also think that money earned should be applied to those things they need, toilet paper, toothbrushes etc. (a small stipend for incentive) and the remainder to help those who were harmed by this violent criminal. Don't want to work? That's fine, but the amenities that could be had through commissary would be unattainable without outside financial help.
Just because your government calls you a criminal doesn't make it true. There's a better way to treat people and the way we do this now benefits only the State while those accosted get the 'compensation' of the perpetrator sitting in prison that HE PAYS FOR. smh
