"I'll send a signal to your digital box"

My Adelphia digital cable video signal drops about every few minutes for 3 seconds. I finally got through the call queue, and the rep said she'd "send a signal" to my digital box to see if that solves the problem. wtf is that all about? is there a magic signal they can send for their service not to suck? she said if it doesn't clear up in 15 minutes to call back and they'll send a tech out.

I've seen them actually reboot cable boxes remotely before. Maybe a firmware upgrade?

You see that cable going into the back of the digital cable box? That transfers information from the calbe company to the box. If your box isnt working, they can send specific signals that the box is programmed to respond to in certain ways. OMG MAGIC!

Just like refreshing the box. All modern cable converters are addressable, so the cable office can communicate with your box directly to update programming, etc.

Did it fix the problem?

I heard someday we will have this thing where you can send signals to other computers and actually transmit data back and forth. That'll be keen when that happens!
