I'll be in Phoenix for the weekend to watch my Sox

My two brothers, my cousin, and I fly in Friday at noonish and will be at Chase Field for the Fri and Sat D-Backs games. We'll be flying back Sunday AM. Yes, we're insane lifelong Sox fans looking for an excuse to see other parts of the country. Our original plan was to go to San Diego and catch the Padres, but all told the trip got a little too pricey.

Anyone else here going to either game? Any suggestions on where to be during the in-between time? Sadly we don't have time to drive the 5.5hrs to Vegas, but that's ok because my sister and her family are moving 20min from the Strip, so that'll happen soon enough 😛

Um....there are a couple of Casinos around the PHX area. They are alright, but i would much rather go to vegas to gamble.

As far as food goes, there is Pizza Bianca that is downtown right next to the science center. It was rated the best pizza in america in a book and by oprah. Very good pizza. Be prepared for 2 hour wait times. What I would do is go there around 4 or so (They open at 5) and wait until they open so you will only have to wait an hour. Dont worry, they have a bar next door.

The Arizona science center is pretty cool. I went to the bodyworlds exhibit there about a month ago, but im not sure if it is still around.

There is also a little restaurant called Tutti Santi, which is very very good. Its located off of the 51 and 16th st.

If you are looking for things outside of phoenix, I would recommend Sedona. Its got some great scenery, and if you get bored of that you can go mess with all the new-age hippies that live there.

Weather is going to be FREAKING HOT, so bring shorts.

Want anymore info? PM me

i think im going to the sox/pad's game on the 23rd. should be a good one. two first place teams duking it out. hopefully the sox fans aren't too obnoxious. since we arent even a league team, im hoping it'll be tame on their end. of course, it could be worse. tomorrow ill be at the padres/dodgers game. treat!

Thanks for the ideas, cheezy.

anxi80, if you've never been to a Sox game before, be prepared for many Bostonians acting like it's Fenway. It's funny how many Boston pots call the New York kettle black in that regard. Yes I cheer for my team vigorously, but me and mine try to keep it good natured. However, when we drove from Boston to Chicago in '05 to see the Sox play for the first time in regular season history at Wrigley, there was just as much red as blue in the stands, and more than a couple unnecessary scuffles not far from us. Because there are so many Sox fans scattered all over the place, and so many of us do travel from Boston, there's an inevitable strength in numbers that can make the obnoxious behavior higher than it should be normally.

After leaving Chi we drove 5hrs SW to St. Louis the next day, to root for the Cards--or more specifically, to boo the Yankees. 😀 Needless to say, we were well received by most at Busch (especially since the Red Sox had just played there for the 1st time a couple weeks prior). Some nearby Yankees fans tried to escalate the back and forth banter to something more, but we didn't bite. The Yanks did win by a large margin, and the rowdy New Yorkers laid into us as we left at the top of the 9th. My only response to them was to hold up my New Era fitted cap with the World Series Champion patch (Sox were still defending at that point). This got a standing ovation from our section.

Personally, I make a point to tell every little kid who (or whose parents) happens to strike up a conversation to always root for their home team no matter what, and not to be a fairweather fan. Respecting the ballparks of others is part of that--we even wear road jerseys 😉

<-- BoSox fan in Phoenix

If you want to see the whole Western thing, you can check out Rawhide. I also recommend Pizzeria Bianco.
