to clarify it is a 2.6 ghz dual core processor.

Basically picture 2 athlons FX 55 put together. Speculations are that the single FX 57 might still beat it because games are single threaded (except SMP) and the core is faster. I Doubt it. with a capital D.

Same here (~2.6-2.7GHz) except mine's an Opteron 170 and it was $356. You'll excuse me if I'm not excited about paying almost 4 times as much for something that might get me 300MHz extra. ;)

Same here, except that I paid $640 for my Athlon X2 4400+ the first time that they showed up on Newegg (in June IIRC) - something that I am not proud of. :(

Hmm, my opty 165 is at 2.52ghz right now and I plan to go higher as my temps are still really low. I think I will stick with ym $300 cpu thats as fast as the $1100 one ;) :p

Though it would be kinda cool to have the best of the best....

I got a 2.9ghz superpi run on a DC Opteron 175. This isn't worth the premium, but if I had a lot of money, why not. :p

All just jealous, if it was the same price you'd want the FX60. If money didn't matter, which it doesn't to some people. XD. I'm stlill on a 2400XP here, but if I really wanted that CPU, nothing would stop me - even if other chips oc'ed to it. There's a certain dumb pride in owning such a powerful CPu at stock.

thats rite, just because the GTO2 overclocks to an X850 XT PE, and costs half the money, I dont despise or make fun of the people who bought an X850, and paid the righteous price for it. its not a matter of how clever you are at saving money. some goods are wroth what they cost. If you find a way to get to the same point and save money good for you. no reason to diss people who pay.

agreed 007Elmo.

money is always an issue u noob. if money didn't matter then why doesn't everyone have quad core everything? and its nice that you 'hate' intel. amd makes nice chips for gaming, but think about every computer in manhatten new york in a corprate business, they use intel. i am a gamer myself and got this p4 before i did much research. and also, every person in the world that has a dell is also an intel user so i'm pretty sure intel isn't worried about losing much money from amd. =\

Well I paid $320 for my X2 3800+ @ 2.65GHz. I'll be playing with my new X800GTO2 by then (hopefully) assuming this one isn't screwed up.

uh... it's nothing new, just a speed bump in the X2 line. It's intel that has new architecture in the pipes right now, not so much AMD.

you an idiot. just because every1 has intel doenst make them a good manufacturer. clearly your work computer is not the best performer out there.

this is not an upgrade to the X2 line, maybe your not getting the point. Its not a 2.6 ghz dual core athlon 64 cpu, its a 2.6 ghz dual core Athlon FX cpu. There is a big difference. Just one of those 2 cores will smoke the 4800+ in any gaming environment. And the FX cpu is not to shabby in other benchmarks either, especially audio encoding. While the single core FX never was a winner in multitasking benches, and video encoding benches (because it only had 1 core of course) it might just slap the X2s in the face now that it has 2 cores. So dont say its nothing new... this is not an X2 5000+ (2.6 ghz dual core should be out soon as well).

Even if your dual-core Opteron did 2.6 stock one would still pick the FX-60 if it was the same price. Did u all over-look the benifits of an unlocked multiplier? Also, price is not a varable for some people when choosing a cpu so the FX-60 looks like a good option as the 955 benches don't look astounding [although AMD better have something up their sleve else Intel will have the edge by the end of the year]. I'll be campin'!

The unlocked multplier is only helpful if you have a motherboard that doesn't overclock worth its weight. Nobody buying an FX-60 (or any FX) to overclock it is going to skimp on the motherboard.

Intel's new Presler core is going to be a force to be reckoned with. However, I agree with you in the AMD is going to trump Intel again.

Uh, the FX is not a different processor, it just has unlocked higher multipliers and always carries 1mb cache, where some A64 parts carry only 512k of L2.

So yes, in fact, this IS just an upgrade to the X2 line, sorry!
