Ilegal operations with my scanning software!

I have a HP Scanjet 4300 and when I went to scan today the scanning program performed illegal operation. Tried restating, still does. Reinstalled software, it works for several scans but then when I go to scan again say a day later it performs illegal operation again. Reinstall software, works for a bit,... repeat process. Very annoying!

Um, is there something wrong with the software? I just formatted a week ago too.

what operating system do you use if it is windows me you may need to go to hp.com and click on drivers and then enter the model number of your 4300 and get an updated dirver for windows me. good luck.

I would remove the scanner and all files from your machine. Then use RegMaid RegMaid to clean up your registry. Make sure you delete all references to the scanner from your registry. Reboot into Safe mode, and check device manager for any resource conflicts. Reboot, and reinstall your scanner, installing just the scanner and none of the extra crap that HP gives you, and make sure you have the very latest drivers from HP - check by model, not by scanner name. After the install, reboot into safe mode and check for any device conflicts - IRQ, etc. Double check your BIOS settings and make sure there are no conflicts there. I screwed my machine up with an HP scanner, a 6300C - so badly that it would tell me the scanner was there even was it wasn't - RegMaid has kept me limping along for about 2 months now.
