Ikea matresses? Are they any good?

I am looking for a new queen size matress. Cost is not a MAJOR issue, although I definately would like to spend less than $1000. I was looking at Ikea matresses (which do not include box springs -- you use a wood base) which seem to cost between $200 and $400. Are they any good?

A standard Sealy matress and box set costs about $600-700 in local stores.

I too need a new matress. Probably will go with a queen, unless a king can be had cheap.

I was thinking about checking Costco, too.

I wouldn't cheap out on matress, it stays with you for a long time and makes a big difference on your sleep quality and sex life.

i have an ikea twin. I'll be glad to get rid of it in a year when i finish school. It isn't terrible quailty.. but 1) i wish i had ordered a more firm one as sometimes i think i don't get the back support i need but 2) it really isn't the highest quality.

If cost isn't a major issue - i'd say definatley go with a higher model of the ikea : but then they are about as expensive as what you get in stores anyway.

King Coil. Anything Ikea sells that doesn't fit in a 1/2" by 12' box is no good.

I bought the same one probably, it was a sealy posterpedic, Yale. I love it.

My GF has an ikea one, and its ok, but it almost feels a little dead, like when a spring compresses, and slowly goes back up. you know what i mean?

It is cheap enough that if it does suck and go bad after a year or so, you're not out a lot of money, and you learned a lesson. I'd get one...Ikeas other stuff is awesome.

I have an Ikea bed. It's not the greatest, but not the worst, either. It is fine for what I paid. I bought a full a couple years ago and to make it more comfortable, bought a nice featherbed to go on top. I'll be glad to upgrade someday when I have the money.

I love my Ikea bed. Getting a firm mattress is key though. You pay a little extra up front, but it will definitely be worthwhile in the longrun. I didn't even buy a box-spring, and I have no complaints. Just my 2 cents.

When I met my SO we both only had twin beds. OMFG was that a pain in the ass.

Never tried it so I can't knock on it... but IKEA has the whole "Get cheaply made stuff for less" as there marketing scheme.... so like there furniture, I would have to say its probably cheaply made and will probably only last you a year or two... if your looking for a mattress to keep for a long time, i would look into a quality mattress from a mattress retailer (mattress pro, mattress firm, etc)...

While I was doing my internship, I bought a $300 Ikea Mattress (Sultan Forsbacka) and it paled in comparison to my $400 Sealy Posturepedic back at home. I like my mattresses firm, but after sleeping on the Ikea mattresses, I felt like I was sleeping on plywood. It took a while to get used to it, but the Sealy's are definitely the way to go. My recommendation...search Craigslist for a used Posturepedic or Simmons Beautyrest. Much cheaper than retail prices and you'll definitely enjoy it way more than those Ikea mattresses.
