can we have a little more info about your network?

is the server part of a domain?
Are you trying to access the server from the local network or from the internet?
Does the IIS system user have access to the directory the web site is in?

I am running it on XP. I am trying to access it from the local machine. It is just a standard setup with default page and all. I just want to take the prompt away for the user and pass.

What is the GUEST account for the website? Are you using NTFS? The GUEST account you setup for the website in IIS needs to have at least read permissions for the home
directory of your website. If that's all setup just peachy, make sure you have the correct password entered in the security section for the website in IIS.
