Anyone else find it dumb that for many popular models, there was no test with side airbags when they are available?

IIHS will only test a model with optional side airbags if the manufacturer pays for it. For most models where side airbags were optional, and one with side air was tested, it scored much better than the one without it.

Much better marketing/PR dollars spent IMHO if they just allowed one with side airbags to be tested.
 
I didnt think manufacturers were huge fans of that place anyway, preferring the government crash test results which are more forgiving.
