Yesterday i found out i can set my IHC9 controller in bios to AHCI which is supposed to give me some enhanced featuures as well as boost speed.

I haev a Hitachi 7tk500 SataII disk and a Sata Burner on another channel.

So i used this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976/en-us to enable AHCI after Vista was already running for a while using IDE.

Then i set to AHCI in bios, let Vista install its drivers. I did some benchmarks using HDTach as well as ATTO.

Then i also installed Intel Inf Utility as well as Intel Raid drivers again )it looks as if Intel Inf Utililty would also just use Vista drivers)...but still didnt see performance gains.

All my benchmarks showed that running drives in AHCI is actually slower.

Btw. running Vista64 Sp1 on dfi lanparty X38.

Any similar stories?

I've heard of some drives performing worse with NCQ enabled, it all depends on the firmware.

i didnt even see an option for NCQ, as opposed to my old NF4 board. I ran quite a bunch of benchmarks, also out of curiosity tried the latest drivers included in Intel Matrix Storage driver pack also. But no matter how many benchies i made, *without* AHCI is faster..sometimes *significantly*.
