like apple ipods or not you benifit. apple pushed the industry forward on usability and form.

apple also pushed sound quality ahead with the ubuiqity of its product and thus the need to create accessories.

just look at ear buds. now even target sells shure canal phones....target! that woulda been unthinkable before the ipods became hits. years back the best headphones target sold were maybe 40 dollar junk sony earbuds.
