I'm thinking if Haswell isn't that great I might just make it my upgrade with my main PC. For my main PC I have an i7 920 down-clocked to 1.6Ghz that idles fairly cool in 75*f ambients @ .832vCore

It works great and I don't really push it other than video encoding from Windows Live Movie Maker. I think the main thing behind that's driving me to possibly upgrading this machine is the fact that I can remove my discrete 5770 GPU and cut down on noise (even at 22% I can hear it), and power even though it's not by much, and just use the iGPU. This raises concerns over playing mp4 files, DVD (.vob) M2T files, etc.. plus I am thinking about re-installing my old TV Tuner card, a WINTV HVR 2250 and am wondering how that will do with the iGPU - is there still sync problems with all these files + Cable TV from a Tuner card?

I am not sure I follow the logic of wanting Haswell if it "isnt that great" for what you want. I would think something like an i3 would be more suited to your needs. For a few dollars more you can also get a model with the HD4000 igp (i3 3225 maybe?).

I have a tuner card hooked up to a core 2 duo and a HD6450. It works perfectly, so I dont think it is that demanding an application.

Summer is coming, the i7 920 will be working against your air conditioning system.

I have 2 machines. My gaming rig I was looking to update/grade if Haswell turns in some good numbers.. hence why i'd consider just sliding that decsion over to my main rig which I could make quieter with no discrete GPU card. I can still hear my 5770 at 20-22% (electrical whine)

What I'm concerned over is NOT if a new CPU can run a TV tuner card, but if there are any Sync'ing issues like iGPU had earlier ... like every so frames there would be a skip in either Audio or Frames being dropped.. er something like that.. I can't recall the details ..

If you can't recall the details, it probably isn't that important to you. ;) The issue you are probably thinking of is that the Sandy/Ivy IGP's can't do 23.976 Hz, only 24 Hz. That means that 1/1000 frames are doubled. Of course, this only matters if you are watching on a TV (not monitor) that is natively capable of 23.976 Hz.

Who knows what the Haswell IGP will be like though.

Thus I should be ok on a PC monitor, something like an Asus VG278H 120Hz
