I'm going to be overclocking it. Hopefully I can hit 1ghz. Should I get the 750? And which mobo? Abit? Asus? Also, does buying an OEM processor from a store that sells pre-tested processors automatically make you think that it's already been tested and won't hit desired speeds? Right now, I'm ordering from mwave, as it's the only place I've ordered mobos and cpus from. Any other trusted vendors to check out?

edit: After looking around, etc. I've kind of settled on those choices. What do you think? Think I'll be able to hit decent speeds? Should I hedge my bet some and pick up a Duron 800 instead?

i would go with the abit board kt 7 or kt 7raid(if you need raid)and i dont recommend buying pretested cpus cause you know they wotn do any higher but if you still want to go the pretestred way you could try out the overclcokers store( http://ocz.safeshopper.com/) they have duron combos(mb cpu and some that include ram adn heatsink fan)

Since you're going to need all the money you can get I'm gonna suggest the Duron650(42$).You can get it for a little less than the 600.

For a mobo try the Epox EP-8kta+.It's pretty o/c friendly,as long as you don't mind using switches to change the multiplier,Vcore&Vi/o.You can set the ram to bus speed + pci.You can pick it up for 102$+shipping.

I looked at the overclocked combos, but they are all minimum 600 core Durons. The idea of a 600 running at 1100mhz is a little much. While I'm sure they have ones that hit that high, I'm quite certain that it won't last. "The candle that burns twice as bright..."

I'm running my D650 @ 936 right now and my pc-100 ram @136.SiSoft Sandra says the memory subsystem is running faster than their 1gig Athlon reference system and the CPU is within a hair of the Pee3 1gig.

Most any D650 will do over 900 and put out less heat than the Athlon at the same speed due to the smaller cache.

How about this, run the D650 till the price of the 1.2G T-Bird comes down in a few months.........

I say you made generally good choices. One question...do you mind the high pitched whine from the Delta fan on the FOP-38? You could always go with the FOP32-1 which is the same heatsink, quieter fan, but less money. Or you can go with the Alpha PAL6035 which cools better than the FOP32-1 when using the same type of fan. FOP32-1 is cheapest of all of them.
