ignorant=unintelligent?

Ignorant is closer to uninformed, IMO.

Edit: Dictionary.com agrees:

Ignorant:
Lacking education or knowledge.
Showing or arising from a lack of education or knowledge: an ignorant mistake.
Unaware or uninformed.

Rob

if you are lacking intelligence you are ignorant.

To clarify - If a person is ignorant they would be unlearned or have no knowledge. If a person would be unintelligent they are lacking intelligence which would make them unwise or ignorant. IMHO your friend is correct.

To make sure I wasn't thinking to far off base I checked the Webster's and it shows under ignorance "resulting from or showing lack of knowledge or intelligence". and under unintelligence it states "lacking intelligence, unwise, ignorant".

I am ignorant about cooking.

Are you going to call me unintelligent though?

Yes! You are unintelligent!! BWAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH 😀

oh crap!! you're one of them AT gods! i'm gonna get banned aint i 🙂

Your friend is wrong. You can tell her she is ignorant about these two words and their specific meaning.

While unintelligent people are often ignorant because of an inability to learn, intelligent people can be ignorant because they have not learned by choice, or by chance.

I am very ignorant when it comes to doing open heart surgery. Does this make unintelligent? Of course not. I CHOOSE not to learn medicine.

So, ignorant does NOT = unintelligent. But it CAN be a sign of a lack of intelligence.

Everybody, no matter how intelligent, is ignorant about something.

LMAO!

Only ignorant people would not know the difference between unintelligent and ignorant.
Yet there are unintelligent people that know the difference betwen unintelligent and ignorant.

No dictionary terms... just mine:

ignorant = uninformed and/or choosing to ignore the facts in an effort to prove your own point.

this is the most ignorant unintelligent thread i've ever posted in.

having said that.

there is a huge difference between ignorant and unintelligent.

You can measure the INTELLIGENCE of animals, are those animals IGNORANT, Yes, but we're not measuring the amount of KNOWLEDGE they possess but their ability to reason Cause to Effect, To make choices, To communicate.

Are dolphins ignorant of Electronics, computers, Retail shopping, automobiles etc etc. . . well, YES, does that make them UNINTELLIGENT?? NO.

another example, my 2 year old is IGNORANT, does it make him unintelligent?? NO.

I think Ignorant can also be selective/voluntary. I conclude this because of the base word "Ignore", which is usually by choice, regardess of reality, facts, or history. For example:

Liberals are Ignorant.

I think that about explains it. 😉

Ignorance just means you're uneducated or uninformed.

Unintelligence just means you don't have the capabilities to be educated or informed about certain things.

anyone can be ignorant but not everyone who is ignoreant is unintelligent.

for example,

if i ask you what type of tea i like to drink...and u say "idunno" that shows that you are ignorant but doesn't necessary prove that u are unintelligent.

Willingly ignorant, yes.
Just happening to be ignorant on a subject, no.
This is based on general usage, not the good book's definition (good book = the 1991 deluxe encyclopedic edition of the meriam webster dictionary)
