Ignorant rap lyrics thread

Disclaimer: I love hip-hop music. That's the reason I know about these lyrics. I kind of find it funny. Here are a few that really make me laugh.

1) From Nas - Ether

"Rockafeller died of AIDS, that was the end of his chapter
And that's the guy y'all chose to name your company after?"

Nelson Rockefeller died in 1979 of a heart attack. The rumor is he was having sex with a prostitute in his office at the time. He did not die of AIDS. I think Nas is thinking of Rock Hudson.

2) From Fat Joe - My Lifestyle

"Blow half your head off, leave you with brain damage
He got his s*** rocked cause he didn't pay hamage"

WTF is hamage??? Of course he means homage but that's really lame!

3) From Jadakiss - We Gonna Make It

"A bad hoe and a plate of salmon
Smokin' and drinkin', awesome dude is you thinkin' that our fate is valid?"

Salmon is pronounced SAL-MONin the song. Really dumb.

Anyone care to add?

there are not very many intelligent rap songs. The ones that are don't get played.

Lets see Eminem has two albums worth. (Well actually more than 2 if you total up his guest appearances and albums before The Slim Shady LP)

You really can't complain about the second two. Even it is just rap music (*shudder*), they can still take poetic license.

It always annoys me when I hear "Duck and Run" by Three Doors Down:

"If this is a free country then why does it cost so much to live?"

What the hell does that mean. The two things have NOTHING to do with each other. I hate stupid lyrics like that.

<< you know that fat joe is from new york and hence has a ny accent >>

Well, I'm from NY, I have an NY accent, and I'll be damned if I've ever said "hamage"...but poetic license is right...

<< rap is ghay...dont know why they always dissing one another..country rocks! :D >>

DON'T make me start my "Rap Enlightenment Threads" again...even better yet...DON'T make me write a freestyle on why country music is wack...:D

<< you know that fat joe is from new york and hence has a ny accent >>

I am from NY and I don't say "hamage". Poetic licence = "I can find a decent word that rhymes"

Or at least, 95% of popular rap artists within the past five years.

Hmm...seems you might be well served by a demeaning freestyle yourself :D

If you knew anything about rap music, you would understand that it is very much a competitive field. Expounding on the good stuff/life you have is as much a tool of the music as the gritty stories it usually tells. ANY MAINSTREAM RAP YOU WILL EVER HEAR IS LIKE TWENTY PERCENT OF RAP MUSIC AS A WHOLE ANYWAY. So ANY ARGUMENT CONDEMNIG RAP BASED ON POPULAR, MAINSTREAM RAP MUSIC IS NOT ONLY WRONG, BUT MAKES YOU LOOK DUMB TOO. Thank you.

On the other hand, I think that some mainstream rap CAN be very good music. I've lost faith in the ability of current mainstream rappers to make anything meaningful. However, 2pac's "Me Against the World" is, IMHO, an amazing album, and contains the most introspective and thoughtful lyrics of probably any album I've heard, regardless of genre.

Guess what? That's mainstream!

I guarantee, listen to a GOOD underground rapper. You will never hear made up words. EVAR.

Propably. I'm not into rap so the mainstream-rap is all I hear, and it certainly seems to fit that description.

An example of GOOD lyrics seems the only way of quenching this argument, here goes: -

Mom yells "dinner's ready", cause she's the boss
All I needed was my ketchup, and my hot sauce
and my, cornbread, now I'm, ready to dig in
Pick the meat off the bone, and then I ate the skin

This small verse is from, "Who Stole My Last Piece Of Chicken" by Organized Konfusion. Try listenin' to it whole, get it on AudioGalaxy.

Jay-Z sucks very badly... as does Puff Daddy.. :|

There aren't too many rap artists I can say I like as a whole... only a few come to mind right off the bat:

Naughty By Nature
Jurassic 5
Outkast
