Hello all, I've been noticing that my key wants to "hang up" a little when I go to remove it, whats a good lube for ignition locks?, I didn't want to go the WD-40 route as I don't think it would last very long and I would be afraid it might mess with the passcode security system, anyone have any ideas/experience with this issue?, car is an '05 Malibu with a dash-mounted switch, thanks..

While I've not used it in the ignition locks I have used it on exterior door locks with great results. I had several that it was difficult to insert/remove the keys in and now they're buttery smooth.

Ahh, I see, it's a PTFE (Teflon) based product, I wonder if anyone local sells it, I know that the "PB Blaster" was used a lot at my old job, those who used it swore it was 10X better than WD-40.

I'm pretty sure I got it at Home Depot because I was there and remembered I was having trouble with the keys. Amazon.com has it for $8.

K, thanks, I'll give HD a try (and Lowes) because they are only 4 miles from me and I would avoid the shipping $ from Amazon.

#1 - Verify that your key isn't bent. Check all 4 directions and if you have a backup set of keys, try them to make sure it's the lock cynlinder and not the key itself.

#2 - Graphite is typically used to lubricate locks. But, GM suggests superlube for their ignition lock cylinders

Multi-Purpose Lubricant, Superlube (GM Part No. U.S. 12346241, in Canada 10953474)

OK, thanks, I do have a spare, it's not getting hung up yet, it's just starting to be a tad noticeable when I take out the key. I see "Superlube" is another PTFE-based product like the stuff from "blaster" that franksta linked to earlier.
