Does anyone find IGN incredibly annoying anymore?

A) The new layout looks nice but its SLOW. Takes forever to render on my laptop.
B) The fact that the site is littered with international reviews is annoying as hell. When I click the "reviews" tab to see the 5 most recent reviews, and 3 of them are the same game (+UK/AU), I immediately leave the site. Either they've never heard of regioning, or they have it in an unapparent way.

I barely go to the site anymore. Too bad really.

It's slow because of the full-page background graphics. You can manually block those with Adblock and it will speed things up. That's useful on any site that uses those dreaded things. I don't really like the new layout at all, hardly ever go there anymore either.

YES. I've found their layout annoying for some time. Despite their questionable reviews, I still like to see what they have to say, but it's way too cluttered and it takes too damn long to do things that can be accomplished easily on other sites. There's so much crap going on that sometimes my work PC can barely handle it.

For instance, in a lot of articles they have what appear to be embedded videos, but instead of something you can buffer and start watching within a few seconds--it's a trap!--and clicking on it takes you to a completely different IGN media hub where you then have to then put up with more loading, a commercial, buffering, etc. Even then, it seems to take longer than other sites to get to the actual content. Gametrailers.com, by comparison, is relatively pain free to watch a video, even with the occasional commercial. With the advent of YouTube it baffles me how sites like IGN can have such horrible media implementation.

IGN is definitely losing some quality, their reviews are very questionable indeed and the reviews page and editors choice is hell to browse through with 3+ review of the same game by the international sites. Even more annoying is the Wii's editor's choice is LITTERED with Virtual Console games, it's like I'm looking at the retro page and not the wii page.

Their interface is nice but they definitely need to increase quality on all fronts.

I don't mind multi-national reviews...it gives you yet another opinion. But ya, I don't care for the new layout simply because it doesn't show many news items. If I ever want to see a review at IGN, I just google "IGN *whatever system* *whatever game*", and it'll take me right to it.

That's Matt 'Manboobs' Assamassina at work for you.

It is a bit cluttered and rather silly that to open a single image I get a full damn page full of more links and graphics, so a 120k images probably is 450k in size after the rubbish.

I used to subscribe, but canceled a little while ago. Even as a subscriber the site was slow. I like how they have high res videos for subscribers, but they only download at like 200K/s on my fios connection that can download at over 2MB/s.

That and I stopped trusting their reviews.

What is up with these major sites getting updated and totally breaking wide screen formats.
Facebook was the worst when they did a redesign, and this is almost as bad.
You would think that as the adoption of 16:9/10 displays reaches critical mass that they would be gaining support from web devs, not losing it.
Oh well, it isn't like I'm losing anything here, the content itself on IGN is garbage anyways (payola!).

I had IGN as my homepage for probably around 3 years, because I liked seeing what was new in the gaming world, reading news, and seeing new reviews. After they did their recent redesign, I hated it so much that I switched my homepage to joystiq. I still trust their reviews and such, though, and will still go there to read them when necessary, but they will get about 99% less traffic from me than they used to.

Somewhere amongst the 3/4 filled page of animated flash adds is legitmate content.

So that means they still have 1/4 of real estate left to whore themselves out to.

Adblocker Plus is pretty much a requirement for sites like IGN (and anandtech.com).

IMO, IGN is annoying, but anandtech.com is even worse. At least at IGN once you get to the article you want to read you can actually read it. At anandtech.com every little twitch of your mouse makes a new mouse over intellitxt ad pop up. Without Adblocker Plus, AT is virtually unreadable IMO.
