I'd also recommend Wildwood Guitars. They'll go above and beyond for you if you call in an order. I've heard of them playing the actual guitar over the phone for you, taking pictures of guitars outside in the sunlight on request, and honestly telling you if one guitar sounds and plays better than another of the same model in their inventory.

Add to that free shipping and no tax (outside of CO). They are also open to haggling over the phone and generally can work with you on 10 - 15% off list.

I bought this from them like 5 years ago. It is still the same price it was back then (2,800). At the time they had a sale on keyboards and knock off $300 so it was $2,500. I walked in and started to play the keyboard and one of the sale managers walked over and we stared talking. I told him I was looking at this keyboard at Piano n Stuff (the biggest name store in Pittsburgh) and told him they were selling this for $2400.

He tells me that they will always beat Piano n Stuff and knocked off $200 more and said he would throw in a stand, foot pedal and amp all free. I wanted a cover but they did not have any that size. I jumped on that deal so they will deal with you for sure.

Have some ammo like you seen this at anther store for cheaper and they will deal with you. And tell them to throw in a case, string, picks and maybe a cheap amp for free.

As someone said, make an offer and be prepared to walk away. When I bought by Roland TD12 drumset it was being sold for $3999. I walked away twice before finally getting it for $3199. I mentioned seeing it for $3500 and one of the other employees said he remembers seeing it even cheaper. They honored it.They made their money and I got a good deal.

You can definitely haggle with them. I've done it before in the past. Just be friendly and keep pushing them that you really want to get it but they need to help you out a bit by giving you some discount. It also helps if you know the prices of other places (even like ebay or something) that you could get it for.

Yeah, I think this is why I was able to get my Gretsch for the price I did. The last thing they want is for you to walk and buy the same item from a competitor.

Yep.. I always haggle with them. I try not to nickle and dime them, but I will throw out a number I'm willing to pay.

If you ask 'what's the cheapest you can sell it for' you probably won't get a good answer. But if you tell them the price to match, that's when they will 'see what they can do'.

FWIW- they went so far as to tell me they were losing money on the Gretsch I bought. I later did some research and as near as I can tell I still paid about a hundred more than they paid for it.

I had to purchase cables from them for an event that was to start in 2 hours. They had them, the event went flawlessly, PF saved the day!

As others have said, you can haggle with Guitar Center. They always have "green tag sale"...."labor day sale"...."15% off 1 item sale", etc. so there is always room for getting deals.

Example I do almost every time I go in.
Strings are $4.99 for a pack. I say "got any deals on those xxx type strings right now". They say "Sure, we can do 3 for $10".

When buying a larger item, I would specifically bring up "used" or "wear and tear" for floor model, b/c they are all floor model really. I'd just start throwing out prices, or start adding in gear like case, strap, cords, strings, etc. if you have it all in your head before hand. Don't let them scam you into that though. Like they'll say "regular price guitar but we'll through in cord (which is usually worthless cheap junk), strap, and strings. They are probably paying nearly nothing on the strap and strings and make their money/comission on the guitar at full price.

Also, you could think about used. I got a perfectly good used $900 +tax guitar for $450 out the door. I really don't see anything wrong with the guitar other than the guitar was dirty (like someone never cleaned it and stored it in a dusty area), some very slight buckle rash on the back spring cover, but really, who cares on that? I can always buy a replacement cover if I'm that concerned.

My favorite part about my experience dealing with GC was that even after I made it clear to the salesman I was not a guitar noob and that I knew exactly what I was looking for and that I was highly knowledge about amps, etc. he just had to, at check out, say, "You know, this is a serious guitar, you just don't want any guitar cable. How about this Monster gold plated cable?" I was just like, "Dude? Really?!?"
