If you're smart, and have 1500+ on SAT, would you..

...live your life differently? Lets say you could get into any college you could, would you pick a different (perhaps higher pay after degree) major than you have now?
 
Just having 1500+ on your SATs isn't going to get you into any college you want. 🙂

And after visiting schools like Carnegie Mellon, Johns Hopkins and UPenn with my sister and family two weeks ago, I do regret being such a slacker in HS and being content with going to UM's Engin school...still good a place, but after seeing other schools, I know what I'm missing and where I would be better suited.

Ah well, such is life.
 
I did score 1500+ and let me tell you it doesn't get you to any college you want to go to. SAT is supposed to be an idication of how well you'll do your frosh yr of college thats it.

I go to a top ten school in the US, and I wish I had gotten into Stanford or Berkeley EECS so I could have stayed closer to home.
 
It takes more to be successful than just being book smart.

I'm satisfied with the way things have worked out for me professionally.
 
I know there are other factors, but lets just say, a big 'if', that you were involved in HS, in high honor roll, and could get into better colleges in the states, would you want to be better than where you are at right now?


Because I certianly would.


It actually bothers me when someone with a really high SAT and has potential to get into a good college, but throw it all away for graphic design or auto-mechanic.
 
Through my own stupidity, I missed a chance to get a half or full-tuition scholarship to USC. I am not unhappy at the University of Washington, but I always wonder what it would have been like to go to USC for a couple years.

There is no use lamenting past mistakes. People who cannot forgive their past will be forever doomed to repeat it.

😕 Graphic design? You know there are some really elite art schools like Kansas City Art Institute right?

u missed out on some hot women hehe lol, the great football and wat u didnt miss was the ghetto neighborhood where itz located


its a good school tho, albeit very expensive

Why would that be considered throwing it away? Wouldnt it be worse to doom yourself to a life where you hate your job and cant stand to see the next workday? I did get a 1500+ on the SAT and all the jazz, and wish that I was doing graphic design (not that I dont LOVE EE). I spend most of my free time learning all I can about art, so I think it would be cool to work on it all the time.

Yeah, I miss CA girls... although the UW campus has its share of hot women (funny how all the attractive women come out of the woodwork once spring hits). Not a football fan (although I did want to do the marching band for a year or two, but meh).

engg specially (cs (which i did) and ee ) are really good

so is communicatons and cinema ofcourse


oh well but univ of wash is a really good school too, and really hard to get in for masters (which i did)
 
I dunno, its just that... some people arent born smart, and they would wish they're smart like those in high honor, while those who are smart, just throw away what they have. It's like, poor people wish they have better meals everyday, while those riches throw away perfectly good food cuz they dont need/want it and go eat at McDonald's. I just wish those smart people treasure what they're given, cuz those who arent born smart, wish they can be like them.

Economics and (probably) Accounting. I am hoping to go to the UW business school for a Masters in Accounting, then maybe an MBA+JD (maybe not necessarily from the UW, although I wouldn't mind it). Nine years at the same school...:Q

I don't know if I would rank USC much higher than UW; they are both pretty good schools

at least the SAT is "standardized" (in theory).

highschools vary greatly in terms of their grading and quality of students. I remember when I went to cal, half the idiots there were valedictorian of there school and almost everybody had a 4.0 regardless of how "smart" they were.
 
I had a 1490. I got rejected from a crapload of schools, including Emory, Georgetown, and JHU. This was back in 2000, too, when it was somewhat easier to get in than now.
 
Meh. SATs are crap. I got a 1270 on them and still got in Cornell. Recommendations are where it's at, baby. 😀
