If you're me you'd be replacing your FX55 - but with what?

So I'm thinking about a CPU upgrade for the holiday season. I want to go dual core but I need something that's 939 - no new motherboard for me.

Opteron 165 or X2 3800 (or higher)

Your thoughts?

the advantage of the opterons is that they are known to OC very well. however, if you get an x2 CPU of the 89W variety, it'll also run cool and OC very well. so, it's really a toss up in whichever you can get cheaper.

2.912ghz is sweet. The only thing would be to get a Opty 165 and OC it. Probably get 2.75 or so. Probably make a difference in games but newer ones that can use multiple cores will love it.

Yeah, I was leaning more toward the 165. But can you reach those speeds on just air with my mobo?

i believe ADV steppings are 89w (Toledo core) and ADA steppings are the older 110W (Manchester core)
