In all seriousness, you are in the wrong job. Anyone who knows enough about computers to surf with something other than AOL, and can install hardware on a PC can and should make a hundred bucks an hour. Most people out there with a home pc, and most people running small business are scared to death to touch the machines when something goes wrong.
I recently had to install a DSL modem; I ended up charging the client 700 bucks to do it. The problem was the documentation for the modem sucked, and the techs were no help at all. After two visits (one by a Bellsouth Master Line Techinician, and one by a master DSL installer) I figured out what was wrong with the install and fixed it (after talking to MY computer guru--who gave me the advice for free).
I do not work on computers full time. My true love is writing, which is my 9-5 job. There is a universal truth concerning writers, and it holds true for techs as well: The difference between the hack working in Hollyweird, making 150k/yr writing for a sitcom, and the guy typing away in his basement, is the fact that the guy in Hollywood has the BALLS to take the chance and put himself on the line. The guy in the basement may have five times the talent, but 1/5 the balls.
The same is true for techs. I have met a few great ones; almost all of them are in other fields, making a lot less an hour than me,and they ALL have far superior computer-related knowledge. They are used to me asking them questions about MY pc's and helping me with MY client issues, but for some reason they will not take the plunge and repair pc's for money.
YOU should be the one making the big bucks. The only one stopping YOU is YOU.
