If your spouse died (or you thought) and you remarried....

Was watching Castaway last night (or night before I can't remember) and it made me wonder:
Let's say that happened to you: Your spouse died (or is thought to be dead) for over 5 years, but then you find out that he/she is alive and meets you. You have remarried already.

What would you do, stay with current husband or leave him (in as nice a way as you can) for your original husband?

What a great movie by the way, except that scene where he knocks out his tooth with the skate I can never watch.

EDIT: OK I'm an idiot Helen Hunt stayed with her current husband

Dude, did we watch the same movie? Didn't Helen Hunt cast away Tom Hanks for her new squeeze?

btw the answer is stay married to one and f*ck buddies with the other.

Techs is right. Helen Hunt stayed with the dentist...Tom Hanks was "cast away" again.

I do like Techs other suggestion though...Helen Hunt is definitely worth making accommodations for...

This happened in Family Guy. Peter comes back and finds Brian and Lois got married. In the end Lois goes back to Peter.

Anyways, it depends on the circumstances. If because you were mourning and got close to someone else then when your original spouse comes back I think you would go back. If it was me, it would be a difficult situation, probably go back with the original.

ur scenario is a little different from the movie. IIRC, Hanks never got a chance to propose.

the first time i had watched it, i was a bit surprised she was able to move on quickly and had a kid with her husband.

I honestly asked myself the question at the end of Cast Away as well. I can't honestly say what I would do, but damn, that would be a rough one.

Technically wouldn't you be married to both?

Technically, he never married Helen Hunt in the movie...BUT, once you're officially declared dead...the marriage is over.

:music:

If any man should come between a husband and his bride
We find out which one she prefers by letting her decide
If she prefers the other man the husband steps outside
We stand him up against the wall and pop! goes the weasel

Sounds like a good alternative to divorce.

Only because it was convenient for a weekly show. They always go back to normal by the end of the show.
