Or you might get burned.... With a LARGE bail..... :D

August 31, 2004 -- A judge yesterday threw the book at a protester arrested for setting fire to a papier-maché dragon near the Garden during the protest march on Sunday.

Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Patricia Nuñez ordered Yusuke Banno, 21, held in lieu of $200,000 bond or $100,000 cash on charges of inciting a riot, resisting arrest and assaulting Police Officer John Park, 26, whose hand was burned making the arrest, authorities said.

Prosecutors said the officer's hand got lodged inside the dragon and he suffered possible nerve damage.

When the stiff bail was set, protesters in the courtroom began shouting obscenities.

When they were thrown out by court officers, several of their fellow demonstrators stormed out after them.

Nuñez refused ? for now ? to arraign three other protesters who had been arrested with Banno and gave their names as John Doe.

"I will not arraign anybody by the name John Doe," Nuñez said. "Send them back downstairs."

He told the John Does: "I'll see you later this week."

Idiots. All you have to do is vote in November. All this whining only serves to make your party look bad.

I must say I have a sick and twisted sense of humour because I love protestors.

Why? Because when there are enough of them, and they are radical enough, then you get to see some beatdowns.

Nothing makes my afternoon more then someone getting clubbed by riot police, blinded by pepper spray, pushed around and thrown down, and hosed with those big riot hoses.

Those trade summits are best for that because you get the ultra radicals going to those.

I swear, damned protestors! Heaven forbid that protestors have done some good such as made certain issues like Civil Rights or the Suffragette (sp?) movement take center stage. Of course, what am I saying? Damned them all.

Newsday has more.
During the incident, in which 12 others also were charged, protesters threw smoke grenades at officers, according to authorities, and protesters also interlocked arms to prevent the police from getting to those who threw the grenades.
Idiots. They had a march down my avenue yesterday. Every police officer has a little bag strapped to their leg full of disposible handcuff. I wanted to see some angry hippy get his sh*t put on the shelf and dragged away in cuffs.

The civil rights protesters were peaceful. They only broke those laws they were opposed to (like the Jim Crow laws). THAT is what civil disobedience is: breaking a law you disagree with, and having the courts decide if it is constitutional.

These protesters have completely turned the idea of civil disobedience on it's head. They break laws that have NOTHING to do with what they are protesting, and claim they have a right to do so because it's "civil disobedience."

There is NO comparison between the civil rights protesters and these idiots. NONE.

We owe them something, those who are concerned enough with the quality of all our lives to speak out while we go safely about the pursuit of our individual quality. Were the guys who did the Boston Tea Party stupid?

Only a Democrat would protest a Republican convention. I don't recall seeing crap on the news about Republicans protesting in mass numbers outside their convention in Boston. The only thing they are accomplishing is making cops edgy and pissed off and making themselves look like complete idiots to the public. What is it going to solve by protesting out on a street?

Might have something to do with Mass. being a democratic state surrounded by other democratic states... not as many republicans to be found. When both parties had their conventions in Philadelphia, I recall the protesting being about equal from both sides.

Oh don't get me wrong, getting violent and being disruptive for it's own sake isn't what I condone. Nor was I trying to compare these protestors with the civil rights movement. I was rather taking exception to "some" of the posters here that are making grand generalizations about all protestors. I'm just trying to suggest that protestors have done some good in the past.

These aggressive protests are having a negative impact on
the "cause" (whatever that may be).

IF you read about the protests leading up to the american revolution, they look a lot more like Seattle WTO and the recent NYC protests, as in semi-riots with much animosity thrown at the crowd control.

I don't have one thing in common with any of these protesting groups, nor do I support any of their causes, nor do I see any good coming out of their position, so I don't see at all how their protest benefits my life.
