You're doing it wrong. Get FFDShow-Tryouts (the latest version) and stop downloading videos that where encoded with 16 reference frames. Either way, it is far better then AVI as a video container.

CCCP (free download) will enable silky smooth 720p and 1080p .mkv playback on most systems (yours certainly will) when you use the Zoomplayer, MPC, WMP, etc. VLC is not a very efficient player.

CCCP is good, but it is outdated. Again, FFDShow-Tryouts (which the CCCP is based off of) is what you need to play it.

I would kill
.avi
.mov
.dvr-ms

.mov and .dvr-ms being my most hated.

Why AAC? I wish we would move away from the dilapidated mp3 format and onto the AAC format for our lossy media (Or have more media distributed as FLAC files and let the end user choose his compression system.)

Outlook, why can't you play nicely?

But yeah, just like PDF actually means Acrobat, perhaps AAC means... some company's lame attempt at a media player?

.AVI

It is more a package for files than a format itself though.
I hate deciphering what codec a AVI used, there are some really odd ones out there.

If the creators of avi had their way MP3 would mean mp3, ac3, flac, wav, pcm and anything else that made a sound.

Seriously people.....stop freaking sending out documents in office '07 format. Large corporations are notoriously slow in retooling their productivity apps.

I hate having to constantly reply back to all the consultants that we work with asking them for a conventional .doc format.

Surely you can't be serious...Click Me.

I vote to remove ASF files. I love PDF files and MOV area great, too. :)

That compatibility thing is a nice thought and all, but .docx is nothing but a lame attack on OpenOffice and the like. It's just a new format to replace .doc which OO can use.

So you'd want your movies to come as .divx.mp3 or .motionjpeg.ac3?

You can update earlier office versions to open Office 2007 docs:

Yes . Then I would know what I can use to play it without having to strip out the four cc code and hunt for a codec. Divx is a good example. If I have a dvd player that is divx certified and the media creator uses the certified profile, I know it will always play.

Adding the audio format would not be required as each video standard already has an accepted audio standard .

AVI has allowed people to use whatever they feel like and hope the other party can play it.

lol... I'm kidding. Actually .mov would be the worst right now. .rm is not an issue since it's been ages since I used a file with that extension. I like pdf's, btw.

What's the accepted audio standard for divx video then? Cause I've seen ac3 2.0, ac3 5.1, and mp3 with divx. Then there's xvid.

you're definitely doing it wrong, considering MKV is not one format. it's a container. get a better decoder for whatever the video stream is.

after installing CCCP, i've never had to search for a codec. :/
