I'm a System Architect/Project Leader for Samsung Electronics, in charge of developing a new consumer product for the wireless telecom market.

I'm actually a part of a very small research group working on innovative ideas, this is one of them.
I get to deal with most of the target software (it's ARM9 based), characterizing the hardware design and features, and some general stuff you do when managing projects (like chasing contacts at other companies from which we source components, etc).
I'm basically an Embedded Software guy at heart but like the low-level side of things (hence the little hardware experience - enough for speaking their language ).

I'm also escorting another project, which directly relates to Samsung's cellphones.

It's some sort of a dream job, we're as informal as it gets. I'm working directly beneath the CTO of our research center, and he's dealing with the corporate stuff, and there's PLENTY of that I get to work with very good people, we're all in our 20's, great laughs (you wouldn't believe how immature we can get sometimes), nice technical challenges and you get to learn alot from working for such a behemoth of a company.
Also, signing off a consumer product is a nice achievement.

Not saying that's all I'll do in the next 5 years - I belong to the rare kind of people who must succeed with their own business, but for the meanwhile, it's a great job and great learning.

I am a intern, i basically take inventory of new stuff, unpack new stuff, put them on carts, fix broken computers, image computers, install drivers and of course insane amounts of web browsing that isn't work related.

I am a wireless network engineer. I basically put up large antennas, and install and maintain new wireless access points for our rural wireless service. Generally we attatch our antennas to existing structures, like grain elevators, other buildings, and a few fire lookout towers high in the mountains. I put up stuff like this -

Network Operations at a datacenter.

That means that I'm a lot more of an Operations guy than a network person. I spend a lot of time managing our munchkins/interns, working on facility management (power/hvac/wiring/cabinets/etc) & coordination, managing my very own budget (not as fun as it sounds), and spend 15-20% of my time actually doing network engineering. I also poke at our very few internal servers occasionally, but do most of my heavy lifting on an aging POS bsd machine -- you cannot beat shell scripting!

I really like my job as it is normally ridiculously low stress. Projects plod along at the pace of A) the budget and B) the contractors, which means slow & slow. The very few customer complaints we get I normally handle as I am on the ground the most out of the management. I make a good amount of money for being 24, and the flexibility, vacation, benefits, time off, etc are all way overboard. I put in maybe 35 hours in a normal week, and travel and take days off/work from home regularly, just because I can.

The real stickler is when things go wrong. That is when the job turns into a nightmare - cannot leave until the problem is resolved. I really like being hands-on, and when things go wrong it is not uncommon at all to be at work for 3 days solid, then back the next morning at 8am. I am also on call very regularly, and as such handle an average of one off-hours issue a week - be it meeting a contractor for late-work, doing customer moves, late night facility maintenance, whatever. That really beats up my schedule, but it's part of the job.

So when things are bad, they are bad. When things are not bad, they are super-duper-awesome. And that is why I do what I do

Except I also got to develop an inventory script that is being used company wide to inventory all IT assets.
